Nintendo is second on the chopping block with their press conference starting around noon ET on Tuesday. Here’s what we all think is going to happen:
Matt – They say it’s about the core gamers at this year’s E3, but I’m not sure how much they’ll do on that front. We may or may not see a storage solution (maybe being able to play games off the SD card). I have a feeling a new Zelda game will be announced and possibly sequels for Animal Crossing and Pikman. Just like with Sony, I’m hoping for more integration for the Wii and DS.

E3 starts up Monday, and we figured we’ll throw out just what we think will happen. We’ll start with Microsoft, since they get to go first with their press conference. Here’s what each of us will think happens:
Matt – I have a strong feeling we’re going to hear about this price drop that everyone knows is coming. I’m guessing a $50 drop across the board on all SKU’s and the possible introduction of a 60GB SKU, maybe replacing the current 20GB Premium. I also think we’ll see the first signs a redesigned dashboard, some new casual gaming innovations (Avatars, Newton, etc), as well as the announcement of a new Halo game without Master Chief.

All eyes are on E3 and this year is no difference. Only weeks away, MS is starting to fan the flames and are promising quite the show.
We’re always working on new things, and you’ll continue to hear lots from us that we believe will be game-changing.
MS must have something planned because outside of GeoW2 and Alan Wake, there is nothing that people are talking about. With Sony picking up steam, MS will be trying to steal the show, this time without Halo 3.

Many hardcore gamers have not been playing much attention to the Wii lately. Smash Bros was all the rave for about a week, then everyone shifted their eyes to MGS4 and GTA IV. Nintendo knows this, but believes what they will show us at E3 will make us turn our heads once again. Nintendo PR head Marc Franklin said:
Nintendo will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3. The clear majority of people waiting in line outside retailers on Sunday mornings to buy their Wii consoles are core gamers.
Look at the plans being made by third-party publishers. They realize that Wii is the current platform of choice in this generation, and their bottom lines depend on appealing to the largest base.
Nintendo has to offer some more non-Mario related games. Outside of tennis, soccer, kart racing, etc. , what else is there? Major third parties don’t develop Wii games because you can’t download anything. Here’s hoping this guy is has something up his sleeve. I might have to turn my Wii on to see if it still works.

Capcom has some potential monster titles coming soon and here is what they will be showing us next month at E3:
- Bionic Commando (PC, PS3, X360)
- Bionic Commando Rearmed (PC, PS3, X360)
- Capcom Project #1 [untitled] (other)
- Capcom Project #2 [untitled] (other)
- Dark Void (PC, PS3, X360)
- MotoGP 08 (other)
- Neopets Puzzle Adventure (PC, Wii)
- Plunder (PC, PS3, X360)
- Resident Evil 5 (PS3, X360)
- Spyborgs (Wii)
- Street Fighter IV (PC, PS3, X360)
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (PS3, X360)
Between Bionic Commando, SF IV, and Resident Evil 5, Capcom might be third party to rule them all this fall.

E3 is only a month away and the big names out there are revealing their hands at what will be presented at the conference. MS has since announced its games to be displayed: Gears 2, Ratchet and Clank: Nuts and Bolts, Alan Wake, Halo Wars, Too Human and Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise. These are all first party titles, but not exactly a killer lineup. Outside of Gears 2, there are a ton of question marks. Halo Wars has been delayed again, Alan Wake’s details are sketchy at best, and Viva and Banjo are kids’ games.
Insiders are claiming that MS is getting desperate and will reveal 2 new games that none of us are expecting.
Let’s put it this way: they’re worried the current line-up can’t carry Q4 for the entire Xbox brand in the core market. You’ll laugh when you see what they’re planning.
The battle of wits has begun. I’m gonna call a Halo prequel game. You heard it here.

Nintendo North American boss Reggie Fils-Aime dropped a little bombshell on his recently in an interview with Gametrailers. He speaks of a brand new game that is coming out and we all will be very, very, excited. Here is what he said:
All I can tell you is what we announce during E3 is gonna be fantastic. The gamer is gonna be excited and the expanded audience is gonna be excited.
Let’s see. It won’t be another Mario game. It won’t be Metroid either. No way its anything Metal Gear. What other beloved characeter have we not seen? I am going to say it right here. I think it will be a new Donkey Kong game. Widely regarded as the best SNES game of all time and a favorite of Billy Madison, this game would turn all kinds of heads. We should all venture our guesses and see what it will be. We shall find out this summer. Hopefully Loot Ninja will be there.
Mark Rein is never one to keep his mouth shut. Sometimes he has no filter between his brain and his mouth, which is great for his line of work. Gamers want to hear the truth, not some sugar-coated PR spin.
In an interview with CVG, Rein said it wasn’t a smart move for Microsoft and Bungie to show a tiny bit of the Halo 3 single player campaign that this year’s E3.
“I think that [showing the single-player campaign] hurt Halo 3 at E3″, Rein told us when we caught up with him for a chat this week. “Halo 3 didn’t win any game of the show awards that I could see. Well, because they didn’t have to show Halo. There was no need”.
“I’m sure if they’d actually had a big Halo 3 presence, if Microsoft had set up eight machines or 12 or 16 machines so you could sit and play it, it would have won all kinds of awards. But they don’t need to because, like me, everyone’s already placed their order… So I think that worked against them at E3,” the Epic boss added.
I somewhat agree with him. I honestly expected more from Halo 3 and was disappointed that all we got was a simple little trailer, given the amount of time between E3 and the release. A single player demo or even a more refined multiplayer demo at E3 would have been better. But hey, everyone is going to buy it anyway. Microsoft knows they’re going to sell millions of copies of this game, so why push it and show anything more than is absolutely needed?

Way back in the day at E3 2007 (yeah, I know it wasn’t that long ago), Sony announced a partnership with NCSoft to bring their MMO expertise to the PS3 and PSP. Today, NCSoft games some of the details on how they expect to accomplish that in a discussion with CVG.
“We haven’t announced any of the titles we might be bringing out, but whatever we bring out, the one thing I can tell you is that, even if they’re some intellectual property we already have, they’ll be things that’ll be very carefully created for the console experience, not merely a straight port”, NCSoft exec producer Richard Garriott told us when we caught up with him at this week’s Develop conference in Brighton.
“We found even back in my Origin days that direct, unadulterated ports weren’t very successful compared to games that you make sure are really crafted correctly for the console experience”, he added.
I’m glad they aren’t going to just throw ports of City of Heroes and such. Richard Garriott is right on the money: gamers would rather have a customized version to make proper use of the PS3 instead of a straight port of the PC versions of their games. Either way, I think NCSoft will do a great job in bolstering the MMO community on game consoles.
It was previously reported as UFC 2007 in all trailers and materials, which hinted at a release this year.
Now, GameTrailers has re-posted the E3 trailer we saw last week, this time calling it “UFC 2009″. I can only pray we don’t have to wait over a year for this game. THQ should have had ample time to develop this game to this level for a release this year.
