EA marketing released a short video featuring the Producer of Spore Hero Arena, Jason Haber. If you are interested in this game, take a look and it might answer some of your questions. It shows the creature creator and many aspects of the game. Enjoy!

Review: Scribblenauts

banner_scribblenauts

Ever since my first glimpse at Scribblenauts back at E3, the game has been at the forefront of my mind. Summoning almost anything you can think of to solve a puzzle or reach a Starite is pure genius. While the premise of the game is terrific and the core gameplay is great, some parts of the game just don’t live up the enormous amount of hype.

Farming Can Be Fun Under a Harvest Moon

Frantic Farming for DS

Plowing the fields, planting the crops and harvesting the produce, sounds mundane but boy can it be addictive in a video game. I found that out when I played Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town long ago. Now there is more good news for Harvest Moon fans. Two new Harvest Moon games have been released.

The first is Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming for the DS. Should be available at retail stores for $29.99. Set in the world of last year’s DS game Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness, the Frantic Farming title continues the story of the island and the residents.

There are 12 playable characters to choose from, each with their own storyline and abilities. Solve the mystery of why the crops are popping up everywhere and growing out of control. The island is threatened by an avalanche of vegetables. Playable in a variety of modes including Story mode, Mission mode and the puzzling mode of Score Attack and Free Play. This game sounds interesting  and I do love a good Harvest Moon game, I’ll probably pick up a copy and let you know what I think.

Magical Melody for the Wii

Magical Melody for the Wii

The second game is Harvest Moon: Magical Melody for the Wii. It’s a re-release of the GameCube version ported to the Wii. This one I’m not as excited about for the simple reason that I played it on the GameCube and I found it to be very slow and boring. Planting crops and making friends took a long time and just navigating from one area of the map to another was slow. Other fans must have enjoyed it and apparently were asking for a Wii version to be released and their wish was granted. This game is exclusive to Game Stop and sells for $29.99. I may try it later but I’m not rushing out to get it. If you play it, I’d be interested to know what you think.

Learn to Make Sushi On Your DS

sushi

I love sushi, so when I saw the press release for this title it piqued my interest.  It supposedly teaches you the art of preparing sushi (over 35 unique dishes) with interactive challenges throughout the game.  Apparently you have to race against the clock to prepare some of these dishes.  Now, I’m all for pseudo-games like this, especially ones that attempt to inform people around the world of different cultures and foods.  However, I worry that this game will make sushi preparation look quick and easy.  Its not.  Sushi chefs go through years and years of schooling and apprenticeships just to become a master chef in the field.  That’s not really something you can replicate in a game.  Of course, the same thing could probably be said for Cooking Mama, and that seems popular enough.

What is also cool about this title is it includes a “Sushipedia”, which showcases the history and culture behind the food, as well as explaining the etiquette behind ordering and eating this delicacy.  I realize sushi isn’t for everyone, but I like the fact that the developer, City Interactive, is at least attempting to educate people about the art of preparing this food.  It looks like we’ll see this title hit the DS in North America in October.

Review: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (DS)

ffcc-eot-ds-box-art

Having not enjoyed the first Crystal Chronicles for the Gamecube (at all), I approached this release with a cautious eye. After about a half-hour, I came to realize that my suspicions were both well founded and at the same time not so much. If that means anything to you. At the very least the game was worth a closer look. A fun game to be sure although I have a feeling that it would have been more enjoyable with the other three players via Wi-Fi connection. But alas, I have no internet connection at this time. “But Schwinghammer,” you ask. “How are you writing this DS review in the first place?” “Mind your own damn business and read the review!” Would be my response. So do it already.

Rockstar Drops New GTA: Chinatown Wars Trailer

Whenever I get an email that mentions Ghostface Killah, it quickly draws my attention. Rockstar sent over the new trailer for GTA: Chinatown Wars for the DS with music by MF Doom and Ghostface Killah.

The trailer is titled “Like A Renegade” and gives you a glimpse at the main character, Huang Lee, and why he’s set out on a life of crime in Liberty City. Definitely looking foward to this one dropping in a couple weeks.
