These things look crazy good. Hopefully both games make it for 2008, but somehow I doubt it. We’ll see as the year goes on. Fire these up on a console near you and bask in the HD glory.

PSP to Get Divx Support; Best Media Portable?

psp2.jpgCES has come to an end and another great announcement for the PSP fans out there. This is one is much bigger than Skype. PSP will soon have full Divx support via Firmware update 4.o.  This means that downloaded movies from PC Store will be playable as well as one transferred from the PS3. There will also be third parties selling movies too soon. This raises the question: Is the PSP the ultimate portable media center? Let us know what you think.

XviD on the PS3 - Streaming Issues - How to Make it Work

PS3 Horizontal

Just want to point out an issue with streaming XviD to the PS3 after today’s firmware update. I’m sure a few of you have gotten pissed off at it not working. Let me know tell you all about it.

Streaming XviD from Windows Media Player 11 does NOT work. Streaming from any other application DOES. So if you’re using Tversity or Nero Home or anything like that, you’ll be able to stream DivX and XviD with no problems. For whatever reason, WMP11 messes everything up.

Personally, I copy stuff to a flash drive and move it over. Streaming over wireless gets iffy when there’s a lot of other network traffic.

PS3 Firmware v2.10 Now Available

DivX Logo

We brought you early news yesterday, but you can now download firmware v2.10 on your PS3 to get DivX playback and Blu-Ray profile 1.1. These are huge updates for media lovers out there.

You can also play around with your voice settings in voice chat only, which is nice. Do whatever you want in chat sessions, but not in game. Good call with that feature there Sony. I can’t tell you how much I hate listening to little kids with voice masque enabled in games.

I played an XviD movie I ripped for testing on the PS3 and it looks great. So all of you out there with your 100% legit DivX and Xvid movies (because we all know everyone’s files are 100% legit, right?) can have your fill of both streaming and direct play on the PS3. One caveat here: files can’t be larger than 2GB. So unless you have a really high quality HD rip, you’ll be fine. Artificial size limits FTL. :(

Happy downloading.

Rumor Mill: PS3 Firmware Update v2.10 Coming Tomorrow - DivX and BluRay 1.1 [Update]

PS3 PSP Connected Image

This rumor is as close to true as we can get you. The reason? It’s already been posted on Spain’s official PlayStation site (but then pulled). The brave minds over at NeoGAF have grabbed the info and translated for you. The real rumor here is the Tuesday release date. I’m betting on Thursday, since that’s when we normally see updates for the PS3. Either way, DivX and BluRay profile 1.1 will be at a PS3 near you, and most likely this week.

The firmware update also looks to bring a Voice Changer feature. Can’t say I’m too excited about that. Hopefully I don’t have to hear little kids tweaking their voices in Warhawk. Along with the DivX playback, you’ll also be able to play WMV videos that are encoded with VC-1 (High Def WMV). Sounds like a plan.

We’ll keep you updated as we get more info on the update.

[Update] The information page on Spain’s official PlayStation site is back up. Check it out here. If you can’t read Spanish, check it out on the UK site here.

XBOX 360’s DivX/Xvid Support Problems

xbox360black.jpg

I really can’t believe that I’m typing this. Christ.

So everyones pretty happy with the new 360 update huh? Not me. Wanna know why?

BECAUSE IT DOESN’T WORK WITH THE F**KING MEDIA EXTENDER. THAT’S WHY!!!!

Really? Is this what they come up with for their brainstorms? ‘Hey, you people can play more media isn’t that great? But hey, not you people over there. Yeah you, the ones with media extenders. You people get nothing. So sit down and stop clapping.’

PS3 Officially Gets DivX Support

DivX Logo

Holy dog shit people. This is a feature begged for by the internet savvy crowd for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 since launch. Today, Sony has delivered in an announcement directly from the CEO of DivX.

Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX commented, “We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3. Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format.”

Sounds great to me. Nothing like streaming DivX movies from my PC to my PS3. Gamers will be able to take advantage of the new features in an upcoming software update.
