EA DICE has returned us to Battlefield: Bad Company with our good friends Sweetwater, Marlowe, Haggard and Redford. Get ready for some shooting, wisecracking, and blowing up EVERYTHING. Is it fun? Is it blast-tastic? Is it worth buying? Is it better than Modern Warfare 2? You can find out after the break.
The release of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 couldn’t have come at a more perfect time than when it did. You see, I’m one of the thousands of gamers that put Modern Warfare 2 on the back-burner for an undisclosed amount of time. As soon as the glitches started to hit, I had to put my controller down until they were fixed. Thousands of you gamers out there cried out to Infinity Ward as glitch after glitch hit the multiplayer fronts online. God mode, unlimited ammo of everything, the “fast running glitch”, rocket jumpers, all of these paved the way for patch after patch being put into place by Infinity Ward. Why do I want to play that with all of this crap going on?
In case you couldn’t get in on the PS3 Beta for Bad Company 2 and your PC will barely run Windows 3.1, you won’t have to wait until March to get your hands on Bad Company 2. EA and DICE confirmed a console demo will be released before the game ships, but no further information was revealed.
While the game is shaping up to be damn good, we’ve had some internal debate here at Loot Ninja on whether it can compete with Modern Warfare 2 on both consoles and PC. I think yes, some others think no. So let’s get you to weigh in on the issue. Do you think Bad Company 2 can be as good as or better than Modern Warfare 2 in the multiplayer realm?
If the PS3 Beta for Bad Company 2 didn’t give you enough or you just prefer the mouse and keyboard, EA and Dice are launching a Beta on PC January 28th. You’ll be able to play with up to 32 players in Rush on the Port Valdez map with Snow. Both Vehicle and Infantry will be available, so you’ll get a feel for headshots and tank cannon blasts. The Beta will run through February 25th giving you plenty of opportunity to get your multiplayer gaming fix.
You’ll have to preorder the game through EA or GameStop to ensure getting into the Beta. Other retailers will hop on board, but nothing is final as of press time.
I have a feeling the PC Beta will be just like the PS3 Beta for the first few days — people running around checking out the map and getting a feel for the destructible environments, not having a care for the game type objectives. That changed towards the end on the PS3 and I’m sure it’ll be the case on PC as well. The real question is will this contend with Modern Warfare 2 and others in the online FPS space. Based on what I’ve seen and played, it very well could come out near the top of the heap.
I’ve been keeping tabs on Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ever since I completed the gold induced final chapter of the first Bad Company. I patiently awaited word that there would be a sequel, hoping desperately that the franchise would take off instead of being thrown into the Wal-Mart bargain bin forever. Luckily the people over at EA came to their senses and will be releasing BF: BC 2 sooner rather than later.
I just received an e-mail tip from a fellow gamer that the people over at IGN and FilePlanet are giving away PS3 beta keys for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for the PS3 away to everyone. All you have to do is head over to this link right here, sign in to your IGN account, and request one. If you don’t have an account with them it’s no big deal. You don’t have to pay for anything, you just give a valid e-mail address and password you want and you’ll be sent a verification e-mail to get you on your way. All you have to have is a valid PSN account. After you login, just click on the link to request your beta key.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 fell off my radar there for a bit with Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 hitting store shelves, but this beta should be a good look into what the final game will look and play like. I just hope you Loot Ninja gamers are smarter than the average assassin, knowing full and well that the beta could be frustrating at times. Remember, this is a beta and will not be indicative of the final product. It’s used to iron out all of the kinks with lag and matchmaking. Plus, if you are one of those “I have to be a higher level than you” type of gamer, this probably isn’t for you as your multiplayer rankings will be wiped clean as soon as the beta is over with.
Look for me online November 19th. Can’t go wrong with a little taste of a free game!
DICE has announced today that Mirror’s Edge will be receiving it’s first downloadable content in late January. The content will consist of seven brand new Time Trial maps with nine races to participate in.
“The freedom of movement and control in first person has been the most popular aspect of Mirror’s Edge so we decided to distill these down to their purest form for this map pack,” says Owen O’Brien, Senior Producer, DICE. “We deliberately chose a more abstract aesthetic that is still within our distinctive art style and then focused on flow and gameplay to create an experience and challenge very different from the main game.”
“No guns, no cops, and no city: this is true aesthetics, agility and flow that will challenge any runner.”
The DLC will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC because today DICE has also confirmed that the PC version of the game will ship worldwide on January 16th. The DLC will be priced at $10 or 800 Microsoft points and all of you PS3 owners will be able to download an additional map for free. Just one of the many perks of owning a PS3, right fanboys?
Developer DICE along with their behemoth of a publisher EA, have announced that Mirror’s Edge has gone gold and will be ready to hit retailers in a full sprint. It’s only a little while longer that you will have to play your demo just to have your cravings subside.
