Turns out adding Nero to the game wasn’t so bad after all, as Capcom announced today that DMC4 has sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
That’s a huge number for the series, making it the fastest selling of all Devil May Cry games. Given the quality of graphics and gameplay, plus the hype machine that surround the game, it’s not very surprising. It just goes to show that multi-platform titles will sell a ton.
In this day and age when game development is pushing into the tens of millions of dollars, it won’t be surprising to see almost all third party titles go multi-platform. Developers need to recoup that money quickly.
Chris Kramer, PR Guru at Capcom, fresh off the heals of telling us to go make a sandwich, shot over a line letting us know that the Devil May Cry 4 demo has been downloaded over 1 million times on the Xbox 360. No word on the number of PS3 downloads.
According to Microsoft, not only is this the first demo of the year to hit a million downloads, but it’s also one of the fastest downloads to hit the one million mark in the history of the LIVE service.
That’s a hell of a lot of demos there. I’ve been playing the game a lot of PS3 and it’s well worth the purchase. Go pick it up if you haven’t yet. Go, now, before Dante jacks you up. (wow, I should hit myself for a cheesy line like that)
Devil May Cry 4 is the first AAA title of 2008, and one of most anticipated titles of the past year. Dante makes his return, although it’s overshadowed by the introduction of Nero, another knight from the Order of the Sword. The recently released demo got everyone excited, but does the full game live up the expectation? Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of Devil May Cry 4 for the PS3:
Presentation and Graphics: Devil May Cry 4 is flat out beautiful. The environments are extremely detailed throughout the game, with both interior and exterior environments looking terrific. Character models are amazing, especially with the huge bosses in the game. The first time you see Berial engulfed in flames, you’ll be amazed. 9 of 10
Being able to install games on the PS3 can be a great thing. Annoying load times will be a thing of the past. However, when DMC4 is installed, people disagree. The game takes 21 minutes to install and you can watch a video about the previous games. Okay. According to early reports, the load times for the PS3 after installation are only a few seconds shorter than the Xbox 360 version which is not installed. Capcom had this statement:
Once installed, the PS3 version of the game has near-Super Nintendo speed load times. If you don’t want to watch the ‘Previously, on Devil May Cry…’ portion of the install process, go make a sandwich and grab a soda, then come on back.
I am definitely support his pro-sandwich platform, but if the load times are barely different, then why is your game eating up HDD space? The time is not a factor for me, its the finite area I have in which to save things that this is eating into.
PS3 owners everywhere have waited for an equivalent to the famed Xbox 360 Achievements. According to PS3fanboy, there WILL be the ability to track what you and your buddies have done in this an hopefully future games.
It’s not the first multiplatform game to include the Xbox 360 achievements inside the PS3 version, by any means, though it is the first to allow players to check out their online accomplishment rankings as well as check out exactly which individual accomplishment goals their friends have achieved.
This could also be the a major step in the development of Home as a viable competitor to the MS juggernaut that is Xbox Live.
A lot of PS3 games require installs to minimize loading times, etc. Devil May Cry 4 steps up with the longest loading time to date. According to CVG, the install clocked in at 21 minutes 41 seconds. Holy shit.
Seriously, how much data are the caching to the hard drive? Any why does it need to take so long? Our copies of the game haven’t gotten here yet, so we can confirm anything first hand, but we’ll keep you posted.
Just wanted to remind you to go back and check out that Devil May Cry super widget we posted a while back. It’s been updated a few times with new screens and videos, so hit it up.
I played the demo through a few times last night because, well, it’s that good. Can’t wait for this one to drop next week.
The eternal question. Homer or Peter? Sonic or Mario? Lube or no lube? Some of these questions have been answered and others need more research, but here is a look at what it would be like if Dante and Nero went at it.
A demo for the first killer app of 2008 has finally been released in demo form for the Xbox 360 and PS3. We were lucky enough to download the game early to avoid the obvious bandwidth letdown that ensues. First of all, the graphics are amazing. This game looks gorgeous on both systems. The shading and light textures will really set the bar for future releases. The controls are solid as usual and in the demo you get the choice of locking on and shooting or slashing. You also have the option to use the Devil Bringer, a demonic device that is on Nero’s arm.
The first mission is a timed level called Exterminator where you have 10 minutes to make your way through a destroyed city and church. The only fault here it is that is timed. It would have been fun to explore the level a little more, but demos usually are short. The second mission, called Executioner, takes place on a icy mountain level. You make your way up the mountain and engage enemies until you reach an enormous castle which contains a city of its own. Next you get to meet Berial, the level boss. How to beat him, well, find out for yourself.
The controls felt a little tighter on the PS3 version simply because that is what the game was designed to be on and that’s what we used to from previous DMC games. The Xbox 360 is virtually identical to its PS3 counterpart, but it does have rumble. You can’t go wrong with either version. The difficulty was not as hard as expected. Newcomers will have no problem picking this up. We may just have out first Game of the Year candidate already folks. We cannot wait for the full version coming next month.
Capcom announced on the 22nd that it is releasing a Demo on the 25th that includes several areas from the final version and a tutorial for unfamiliar players.
The climax of the demo pits you against this large fellow pictured above. His name is Berial. He’s gonna kick your ass.
The full game is released in twelve days. If you’ve never played a game in this series before. I’d get some practice in if I were you.
