Crytek Dumps Support of Crysis Already

Crysis Screen

It hasn’t been that long and already Crytek has dumped support of their monster PC shooter, Crysis. The upcoming v1.3 patch isn’t going to see the light of day.

At this time, there almost certainly will not be a patch 1.3 delivered for Crysis. We are aware that this news will disappoint many of you, and we would like to apologize profusely. There is a good reason for this and we hope you understand when you hear more about the reasons why in the very, very near future. Please realize this was an extremely difficult decision, but please do know that we are listening to your comments and are making more consistent community support a high priority.

So what exactly is good enough reason to stop supporting the game? Will there be a sequel coming shortly? Maybe a console version? I doubt the game coming to consoles would be understood well by PC gamers. Whatever the cause, it’s pretty crappy that they’re done supporting the game after such little time.

Crysis Patch v1.2 Coming Soon

Crysis Screen

Development is wrapping up on the next patch for Crysis, v1.2. Lots of bug fixes in this release, as v1.1 took care a lot of the behind the scenes performance issues. Here’s some of the fixes you can expect in the near future:

  • Fixed potential server exploit that could cause servers to crash.
  • Added mouse wheel scrolling support for server browser.
  • Fixed an issue where in unarmed mode, the character’s arms will suddenly reappear and disappear when picking up and dropping an object.
  • Added new effects for vehicle shattering after being frozen.
  • C4 will now stick to doors correctly.
  • Added new grenade indicator icon.
  • Adjusted explosion radius of grenade launcher to be more efficient vs. players.
  • Added check for players riding on vehicles while not seated to prevent them being killed.
  • Tweaked damage for players hit by vehicles at lower speeds.
  • Adjusted wall collision damage for civilian car.
  • Improved AI machinegun handling (both stationary and mounted machineguns on vehicles).
  • Fixed an issue with “Escort Prophet out of sphere” objective failure causing reloading issues.
  • Added team colors to kill/death messages (explained in detail further above).
  • Fixed some game states not properly resetting after game restart.
  • Fixed issue where VOIP doesn’t work properly on non-dedicated servers.
  • Added auto team balance. Players will now be moved from full teams to the opposing side when dead if the numbers are unbalanced.

That’s a good number of fixes there for those of us with strong enough machines to run the game. We’ll keep you posted on this patch being released.

Rumor: Crysis Coming to Consoles??

Crysis, in my opinion, is the best game a lot of us haven’t played. Why? The PC requirements are a little high to say the least. Last September at DigitaLife, drunk pandas and I asked one developer for Crysis point blank, “Is this ever going to get ported?” He said, “We have to see how well the game does before we even consider that.”

Turns out, it may get ported after all. At upcoming Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, that same question was asked. His response:

“In order to make Crysis’s gameplay [on console] you would have to make a derivative Crysis and optimise it for the Xbox 360 and PS3. In fact, if we do it, we’ll optimise it for each platform”, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli said at the time.

This is not a yes or no either way, but with the ultimate success that Half Life 2 had being ported, EA seems to be seriously considering it. If they do port it, you can bet the game will fly off of shelves.

Crysis: The Shark Attack

In some games, there are invisible walls that won’t let you swim or venture to far in open maps. Crysis, on the other hand goes a step further. You get eaten by a shark. You need to see this to believe it. There is pwnage, and there is now shark pwnage.

Rumor Mill: Crysis Coming to PS3… Again

Crysis Screen

It’s not uncommon to hear rumors of Crysis getting a console port. But it seems to have resurfaced again, with some more details.

The game looks to be a port of the PC original plus some extra modes and features, a kind of Crysis 1.5.

Granted this is all rumor still, but it would make a lot of sense to bring Crysis to consoles. It would get the game even that much more exposure. According to the article, an Xbox 360 version is not in the works due to technical limitations of the system.

Crysis Controlled with Wiimote

If you’ve got a strong enough PC to run Crysis and have some spare horsepower for an add-on (who doesn’t, right), then you might be interested in Wiisis. This guy mapped almost all of the game’s controls to the Wiimote and Nunchuk. Granted, it’s very freaking cool, but there’s no my PC will ever be able to run both applications. Maybe it gives up hope for some really good shooters on the Wii.

Crysis 3000 Barrel Play Time

Ever wanted to see what would happen if you arrange 3000 barrels into the shape a chair and let it implode? Well, wonder no longer. Some brave users have risked PC hardware to make these videos in the Sandbox in Crysis. Before anyone starts going nuts… these are taken as still shots frame by frame then put together to make a 30fps video in Virtuadub. There’s almost no way this will run in real time on most PC’s.

Crysis and UT3 for PC Not Selling as Much as Expected

crysis.jpgIt seems that the killer aps for the PC are not moving as well as most people including developers had thought. The sales for Crysis, which is a gorgeous looking and phenomenal game with a 91 on metacritic has only sold 86,663 according to research group NPD. The reason for this? You need to have an insane amount of hardware just to run the game on its lowest settings. A dual core processor, 2gb of RAM, and a decent DX10 card might get you 30 fps. Not all that great considering your laptop is going to be well over $2000.

UT3, another awesome game with a very loyal following has only 33,995 units sold according to the same research group. The writing on the wall is clear. People no longer have to shell out tons of money for hardware that is going to be obselete in 6 months. The PS3 version will not even cost you 500 bucks for game and console. Could this be the end of PC gaming as we know it? Probably not, but consoles are making strides to complete overtake it.

Crysis (PC) Review

Crysis Screen

It’s been a long time coming. Jaw dropping screenshots coupled with tiny hints of story and gameplay over the past two years have culminated with the release of Crysis. We all know it’s pretty, but it does come at a very high price. Flat out: your machine can’t make the game look like any screenshots you’ve seen. Otherwise, how does the game hold up? Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of Crysis for the PC:

Presentation and Graphics: You can’t deny the beauty of Crysis. Every bit of the game is meticulously detailed, from the characters to every bit of the fully interactive environment. Trees and bushes move as you go by, buildings crumble when you drive into them, and trees fall over if you shoot them enough. The level of detail here is just astonishing. However, the game requires such a massive amount of hardware that a good majority of people won’t see this detail for maybe another two years. Even with a good setup, you might not be able to run Crysis in Medium mode. Recent tests show even a triple SLI setup with Nvidia 8800 cards can’t max the game out. Crysis would have received a 5 here if everyone didn’t have to spend thousands of dollars to see the game as it’s meant to be. 4.5 of 5
