Conan has been hero to many who grew up in the 80’s for his brutality and way with the ladies. But this isn’t Arnold here. How well does the character translate from the big screen to the digital realm? Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of Conan for the PS3:
Presentation and Graphics: Conan isn’t the best looking game we’ve ever seen here at Loot Ninja. The character models are decent, but show a good big of jaggies. Environments are about the same. The game’s camera leaves little to be desired. You will experience many issues with collision detection and clipping, especially when near walls or rock outcroppings. Thankfully, the is the only real problem with the game. 3 of 5

I’ve been playing Conan on the PS3 and I’ve been a bit confused. Do I like it? Do I not? I definitely don’t hate the game, but I definitely don’t love it either. I’d say somewhere in the middle. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Conan is a God of War-esque game, where you run around killing pirates, demons, and all kinds of bad creatures. One thing is for sure, the game is gory. Think Mortal Kombat on steroids. When you slice through an enemy with your sword, limbs and heads come off left and right. As you play, you can unlock new combos and upgrade those combos by using them over and over, similar to how weapon upgrades on Ratchet and Clank work. The biggest problem with the gameplay is the camera. There’s a lot of places where the camera will jump around, like if you try to walk into an invisible wall. With that said, there’s also some collision detection issues that play havoc on the camera in certain scenarios. The graphics in Conan are just okay. Nothing earth shattering, but not horrible either. I didn’t experience any screen tearing, clipping, or slowdowns, which is good.
Overall, Conan is somewhat fun, but lacks the story and depth to draw you in that similar style games possess. Expect a full review soon, but for now I’d say the game is just a rental.
I’ll never forget the first time I saw Conan punch a camel in the face when he was hammered. Great stuff. This demo… not so sure about that. The game does not hide from what it is, a very brutal, violent hack and slash. There are some very cool combos and hacking limbs off is fun as hell. Yet, there are some glaring issues and the camera is a huge problem. You cannot move the camera at all, at least from the level you play in the demo. This means that the background environments are going to bland as hell because you can barely see them. You basically have no idea where you are going until you get there. To not have a 360 degree camera angle at this point makes no sense. Especially when you have to deal with enemies in the same plane. The demo is short, ten minutes max if you know where to go. This game could be fun, maybe when you can obtain enough rubies or ruples or whatever the currency is. I like the ability to pick up almost anything and wing it at someone. Could be a fun rental, but as of right now. buying this game before some reviews come out might be a sixty dollar mistake.
Conan is coming to consoles and you get a chance to play through a few levels. The game 100+ fighting moves and combinations as Conan decimates his foes using a variety of deadly weapons, hand-to-hand combat, and even his surrounding environment. This could be a decent button masher with some intense violence or just another mediocre Xbox 360 release. We will see.
The demo for Xbox 360 is available now and the PS3 version this Thursday, Oct 11.
