It’s that time of year again. Spring is in the air, at least in some parts of the country, and baseball is on our brains and consoles. If you’re a PS3 or multi-platform gamer, you have two choices to fill your baseball gaming needs, with 2K’s MLB 2K9 and Sony’s MLB 09 The Show. Both have made some nice upgrades since the 2008 season, but which is the best bang for your buck? We break it down for you in every category to see who should get your money.
The Wii doesn’t have the horsepower to hold up the the Xbox 360 or PS3, but that doesn’t mean it can’t produce a good looking game. Capcom recently released Dead Rising: Chop till you Drop on the Wii. Does it hold up to the Xbox 360 version that came out almost two years ago? I don’t think so, but you be the judge.
Want to see how much better GTA IV looks on the PC than consoles? GameTrailers put a little video together. The difference is astounding. However, as they note, the PC they used to put this together has utterly disgusting specs. You surely do not have a rig that good. The best processor, the best video card, and maxing out the RAM. Yeah, I’m sure all of you have that kind of spare cash laying around.
Mercs 2 was dropped on us on Sunday and most of the reviews are positive though the game has some flaws, namely the enemy AI. For those of us who like to blow shit up, we have to decide on what console to get it for. These videos look very similar to me. What do you think?
Everyone loves to compare things. From what I hear, the only true difference between the two games is Yoda or Vader. Some people claim that the PS3 controller is better suited for fighting games, a point I can’t disagree with. Check this out and you tell me which looks better.
When Tiger Woods first hit the scene, the game not the golfer, people were instantly hooked. Since then, it has become a staple of the EA Sports family and every year we are treated with a new release. Like many of EA’s sports games, not much has changed from year to year and gamers are not as quick to grab the latest version. This video comparison is of last year’s and the current versions. The 09′ looks much better, but will their be any new features instead of a view new courses and original characters?
I suck at these. I never really see a difference in the comparison videos, but I think I have to give the edge to the PS3 version. The graphics look a little sharper and the shading is also a tad better. The 360 is noticeably darker but it will really depend on the quality of TV you have and its contrast ratio.
EA put together a nice little video to show off some of the new graphical powers in Madden 09 compared to last year’s version. The stadiums, lighting, and player models all look a good deal better. Hopefully they ramped up the gameplay to go along with the new eye candy.
I’ve now spent over 5 hours on the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV. I decided to pick it up considering all my friends are playing on the 360. Even though I’m a decent way into the single player of the PS3 version, I decided to pick up the other. I’ve been running through the missions, skipping cutscenes, and I’m pretty close to where I was on the PS3. I have some more Vlad stuff to do and a couple Roman missions to get to where I was, plus getting to the Russian guy down by the beach.
So here’s my thoughts, and yes I know it’s been a while since the game has been released, but none of us had really spent a lot time with both consoles. The PS3 version definitely looks better. The colors and lighting are nicer and there are definitely more jaggies on the 360 version of the game. The controls are about equal, but it’s easier to use the 360 triggers for aiming than using the awkward triggers on the DualShock 3.
Now on to the freezing, which is plaguing a lot of people. I’ve had one complete system lockup on each version of the game. On the PS3, it was while I was going bowling with Michelle. On the Xbox 360, it was during a Vlad mission. In both cases, I had to power down the system and start back up, which was annoying. I haven’t had any minor hiccups outside the complete lockups.
You really can’t go wrong with either version of the game, but I’d suggest picking up whichever one your friends are playing. I have much more fun playing multiplayer with friends, since most random people don’t participate in game’s objective. There’s nothing worse than trying to play Cops and Crooks have people just run away and not try to kill the other team’s boss or protect your boss. Either way, get the game and play the hell out of it.
The latest hubbub in the every going console flame war has now shifted to Gametrailers, one of the biggest and most respected sites in gaming. In the past, there have been claims that they show poor quality PS3 videos to contrast with much better Xbox 360 ones to show the MS port as better. Although they have no opinion of their own, people say its propaganda with the differences sometimes staggering.
The video below, now pulled from GT, was a comparison of both versions of the racing title GRID. Watch and see for yourselves. I am not claiming anything here on GT because it would make no sense that this was intentional and if they have any ulterior motives. I love their site and would hate to see it scrutinized for simple mix up. Other gamers are not so light in their sentiments. What do you guys think? A simple fuck up or dirty pool?
