I think I’m going to buy some new controllers in preperation for Super Street Fighter IV. In an interview with Kotaku, Capcom’s Seth Killian indicated that Seth, the end-boss in Street Fighter IV, will be even harder in the Super edition. Let the controller smashing commence.
Seth will be even cheaper and more irritating.
Great. Just great. I did enough screaming and flailing around when Seth spammed teleports, Sonic Boom’s, and the move where he sucks you into his stomach and spits you out. Now, he’s going to be even worse. At least all the fighters will be unlocked from the start so that I don’t have to worry about beating Seth a crap-ton of times to use them all.
Will knowing this make you less likely to buy the game? How about the fact that Capcom hasn’t settled on pricing for the game and it very well could end up costing you $60? That part annoys me, but the Seth factor won’t change me wanting to get in on some more Street Fighter action.
I have some strong opinions about Super Street Fighter IV, but I’m reserving final judgment until Capcom divulges a bit more information, namely pricing. Since I lost my PS3 game save for Street Fighter IV anyway, it might be worth me picking up the new version, but I won’t know for sure for a little while. Instead of just sitting here waiting, let’s watch some of the new fighters in the game. T. Hawk, Dee Jay and Juri all look like worthy competitors, especially with all the re-balancing Capcom is doing.
Lost Planet was a surprise hit on the 360 before making its way to the PC and the PS3. An early title in the life cycle of the Xbox 360, Capcom gave us a different take on 3rd person shooters. The game has you killing strange monsters, but you must retrieve their thermal energy to stay alive on the planet which was cold as balls. This concept pitted you against a veritable death clock, which was balanced and difficult at the same time. The story made less sense than ordering a Diet Coke at Wendy’s, but playing as both human and as a Mech (they call them VS suits) was a fun ride. Enough stalling, how is the follow up demo?
I’m a bit confused at this one, since it seemed Capcom was leaning towards the PSN for the lead release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. PS3 users got an exclusive demo to get them excited for the game, but Xbox 360 users will get the full game two weeks earlier (Xbox 360 release July 29th, PS3 release August 13th).
I don’t know how the deal went down, but this is surely going to mean a dramatic sales difference between the two platforms. Personally, I’ll be waiting the two weeks and picking this up on the PS3. Why, you might ask? The Xbox 360 D-pad is horrific for 2D fighting games, that’s why.
We’ve reached out to Capcom for comment on the two week release difference, but no response was received by press time. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be $15 (or 1200 banana bucks) when it drops for each console.
If you go online in Street Fighter IV, inevitably most people will choose Sagat. Why? Because he’s one of the top two most powerful fighters in the game. The other is Seth, the uber-cheap boss from the single player mode. It turns out Capcom made an oopsy with these two fighters as they’re a bit more powerful than anticipated.
Yes, Seth and perhaps Sagat might have turned out a little bit stronger than we expected. [...] A good player of another character can always beat a good Sagat player or a good Seth player. I don’t think it’s too out of proportion, but we do acknowledge that they turned out a bit more powerful than we expected.
If you look at the world’s top Street Fighter IV players, none of them use either Sagat or Seth, which does go to say that it’s not who you pick, it’s how you use them. Still, I wonder if Capcom can re-balance the game a bit with a future patch.
Anyone who has a hard-on for Capcom games, especially the good ones should pay attention. An utter shitload of games is being released on the PSN tomorrow which can only be downloaded onto your PSP. Hit the jump for all the games included in the download. There will also be even more Capcom content available on the PSN in due time. Expect games like Resident Evil 2 and 3 to be downloadable along with other previous UMD only titles.
I’ll be the first to admit that I wasn’t a huge fan of the first Lost Planet. The gameplay mechanics just doesn’t suit my playing style all that well. When Capcom announced the sequel, I didn’t get very excited, even though I’m a huge fan of co-op gameplay. After getting some hands on time with the game at Capcom’s booth, my mind has been changed on the series.
Nom nom brains. Dead Rising 2, now sporting bajillions of zombies on screen at once as well as multiplayer, looks to be shaping up nicely. Capcom dropped a debut trailer at CAPTIVATE over in Monte Carlo. We weren’t invited. Boo on that. But we get to bask in all the new announcement glory anyway, so check it out.
In what could be the worst kept secret in gaming for 2009, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was finally confirmed to be real. The fan requested port is being developed from the Dreamcast code base with a few nice twists.
First and foremost, there will be online play based largely on the net code from Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (so you can expect both player and quarter matches). There will be HD upscaling options as well as widescreen if you don’t want to look at the original 4:3 stylings. My favorite feature is that all 56 characters will be unlocked from the start, so you don’t have to go through unlocking everyone like you’ve done in the past.
For PS3 gamers, a demo will be available on the PSN this week so you can check out a few characters in offline play. No demo has been announced for the Xbox 360 yet. The full game will be available this summer for $15 / 1200 Microsoft Points.
I’m just happy that I’ll need one less console now for fight night gaming parties. Maybe the PS3 will be the only one we need (SF4, SSF2THDR, SC4, MK2, and now MvC2).
Don’t tell me you haven’t been wondering just what’s going on up the skirts of some of the female fighters in Street Fighter IV. Myself and BJ have had multiple conversations of the sort, many times after a few beers. With the upcoming free Championship Mode DLC for the game, you’ll be able to pan the camera around in Replay Mode and check out the whispering eyes of the ladies.
More importantly (depending on how you look at it), the DLC will bring on tournaments that you’ve been sorely missing since the game dropped earlier this year. I can’t wait to get the shit kicked out of me just like I do without tournaments.
Snatch this up when it drops for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 on April 24th. It’s free, so you don’t have any excuses.
