It was a blissful day saturated with autumn’s bellowing frigid touch in the desolate niche of where I reside. Children’s laughter permeated the morning sky and junkies shuffled their feet resembling movements of a George A. Romero zombie flick. Everything seemed normal except, that on this day, one of the greatest games was released - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Like the loser that I am, I walked fiercely pushing and shoving anything and anyone that stood in my path as I went to Game World (my local video games shop) to claim what was rightfully mine. I looked like a recently released pedophile stalking the closest thing with a Winney The Pooh backpack and a Juicy Juice box. I finally approached my destination, with cash in hand, and asked for my copy of COD4. The gentlemen handed me my game, I walked out, and went back home.
When you first get a game you’ve anticipated for so long, your adrenaline goes through the roof. You’re so frantic and antsy that you forget about everything around you, almost. Interruption isn’t handled well in my patience department, so I make the needed phone calls and ask everyone to fuck off for the next day or so (including my girlfriend).
I pop-in the game, and start the single player campaign. It’s exactly what I expected: great graphics, great sound, great gameplay, great story (although a little short). Now, time for the multiplayer.

The elusive Call Of Duty: World at War beta showed up in my email yesterday and like the other 40,000 or so gamers that received the beta codes, I ran out and downloaded it as soon as I could. After redeeming my code and downloading the 890 MB file, I was greeted to a welcome screen that stated the following:
Welcome! The Online Multiplayer Beta is a sneak peak at the Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer experience. This Beta contains a few early versions of the maps, modes, and features of the full game. have fun and we’ll see you online.

This popped up on the Inifinity Ward Forums:
With the latest Playstation 3 firmware now available, I see a lot of questions regarding how it effects Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
At this time, we have no plans to patch in Trophy support for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the PS3. Much like DualShock rumble addition to the PS3, the support for these new features have come much to late for us to add it to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare due to our current production schedule.
All I can say is this sucks, I have an un-opened copy of COD 4 for my PS3 just sitting and waiting for trophies, but it looks like that dream is gone. COD 4 gets no rumble or trophy support, this is just horrible. This also is a sign of things to come, something tells me that we will see many other game companies use the same lame excuse and trophies will only become available for new games.
This is a big blow to the new trophy system for PS3.

This is big news. Not many games since 2000 have done this and those are games like WoW, Wii Fit, DS Titles, and The Sims. Halo 3 has only sold around 8 million. To be fair, COD4 is on 2 consoles and Halo is just on 360. Call of Duty 5 is rumored to be another WWII titles from Treyarch and we all are sacrificing chickens to ensure that does not happen. Nevertheless, great job and congratulations in making a phenomenal game.

Xbox Live supremacy has once again shifted gears. GTA IV is now the top dog. We all knew GTA was going to make noise, but to top COD4 and Halo 3 is a testament to how big this game is really becoming.
Xbox 360 Top Live Titles (based on UU’s)
1 GTA IV
2 Call of Duty 4
3 Halo 3
4 Guitar Hero III
5 Gears of War
6 Rock Band
7 Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Vegas 2
8 Iron Man Demo
9 FIFA 08
10 Forza Motorsport 2

As if Gamestop doesn’t do enough things to look stupid… I was picking up my copy of GTA IV Special Edition this morning for PS3 at my local Gamestop. Another guy was there buying the game off the shelf. Both of us got ID’d to buy the game. I look nowhere near 17, but whatever. The guy next to me asks “Are you kidding?” The follow up reply from the old guy behind the counter waiting on me was “We’re not taking any chances with this game.”
Ok, you might say. As soon as the other guy leaves, a kid walks up to the counter to buy a used copy of Call of Duty 4. The kid was no more than 4 feet tall and couldn’t have been older than 13 or 14. Did he get ID’d? Nope. When I asked the guy behind the counter why not, I was told “We’re only worried about GTA.”
Wow. So let me get this straight. Gamestop doesn’t care about the ESRB “M” rating and will sell these games to minors as long as it’s not GTA? What kind of bull is that? I shook my head, took my copy of the game and went home. Still baffled over this one. It’s this kind of crap that fuels people like Chuckles.

Want to know what the fastest selling DLC is on Xbox Live? That would roughly be the Variety Map Pack for Call of Duty 4. Activision sent over a press release to let us know the maps sold over one million copies in its first nine days.
Additionally, Xbox LIVE members played more than 30 million sessions and logged more than 30 million hours of gameplay.
That’s pretty impressive! You all know my stance on buying maps, but the Variety Map Pack and the Legendary Map Pack for Halo 3 are two that are really worth it. If you haven’t bought either and play the games regularly online, go buy these maps now.

PS3 owners will finally get a crack at the new maps on COD4. They will also get a double exp points weekend where all kills and assists have a 2x multiplier in the specified games.

There is a general discontent with downloadable content from gamers nowadays. More frequently than not, its an attempt from a developer to grab a few extra bucks for content that probably should been packaged with the original release but withheld for the aforementioned reason. The Variety Map Pack for COD4 on the Xbox 360 (the PS3 version is identical, have not played it yet) does not meet that criteria. Activision’s add-on brings gamers four new and totally different maps to further expand their already record breaking multiplayer. Furthermore, each map also seems like it was designed for a specific game type and that adds to the replayability even more.
The first map, Chinatown, is a complete rehash of Carentan from COD1 and 2. That’s where the similarities end. Though the maps’ skeleton remains, its skin has been completely redone. From DVD shops to markets to empty apartments, few maps give the frenzied feel that Chinatown can. There are strategically placed gun turrets as well which add to the overall wildness of the map.
