BRINK Game Director Paul Wedgewood from Splash Damage took some time out of his busy schedule to put on a developer session every day of Eurogamer Expo this year. I caught the final session on Saturday. What was on display was pretty awesome.
BRINK is about the last known bastion of civilization in 2045 known as the Ark. Originally built as an experimental habitat shit has happened that has made it a permanent habitat for the past 20 years. In that time the original citizens survived and reproduced and taken on refugees, growing the population beyond the intent of the Ark. Refugees have taken up homes in Container City, a place previously reserved only for storage. The imbalances of society have caused some to rise up, placing the Ark on the BRINK of civil war. There are two sides to this war (as is normally the case), refugees and the police. The refugees see themselves as rebels, fighting for equality. The security force are just doing their jobs, viewing the troublesome refugees as borderline terrorists.

Game developer Bethesda – you might remember them from such games as Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion – announced today that they will be revealing a new game “in the next month or so”, according to MTV. While exciting, this is not the Elder Scrolls 5 announcement I’ve been waiting for, but rather confirmed as a game other than Fallout or Elder Scrolls, and not an iPhone game either.
I’m curious to see what it is – Bethesda’s parent company, Zenimax, recently bought id Software, so chances are it could be a Bethesda/id type of game along the lines of Brink. I guess we’ll find out within a month or so.

Bethesda and Splash Damage decided to dish out a little more love on the recently announced Brink. Long story short, a perfect environmentally-friendly city called the Ark was built. The world falls apart and the Ark is the only safe haven. Lots of people in a small place and all hell breaks loose. Insert player.
What makes this so revolutionary is Splash Damage are proposing to blur the lines between single and multiplayer. Your character will be built and playable single player, co-op, and multiplayer. One character, multiple game modes. Me likey. Brink will also be sporting a SMART button which makes the game do what the player wants them to do. Trying to jump across a chasm but can’t make it? Hit the SMART button and the game does it for you. Lazy but cool. All in all it looks like a new take on the FPS, very exciting. Hit the jump to see the sexy screens. Matt got to check this out at E3, so stay tuned for his full impressions.

E3 hasn’t officially started yet, but the information is being to flow. Last night, Spike TV showed the GameTrailers E3 preview show and a lot of information came out. The biggest, in my eyes, is the teaser trailer for Brink from Bethesda. They’ve said a few times that this game will blow your mind and the teaser doesn’t disappoint. I’m expecting a good deal more info once the show actually starts next week.
