I’ll Redesign Your Face PS3!

Uncharted 2 Redesign

Sony is on a tear here lately and just can’t leave things well enough alone!  It gets me so mad sometimes!  I’m talking to you Sony!  Anyway, here recently, Sony has changed the PS3 logo, they’ve changed the look of the console with the new PS3 Slim, they just released a new firmware update, and now Sony is changing box art designs.  The first game up on the chopping block is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, one all PS3 owners should buy.  I guess this is Sony’s way of making everyone get used to the new design.

I don’t know about you Loot Ninja gamers, but I like to have my video game collection in tip top shape.  The game shelf (or gaming cabinet in my case) should be “shown off” when company comes over for dinner.  It doesn’t matter who shows up, whether it be granny McGee or a 10 year old boy.  Friends should be able to enjoy a nice 3 course meal and then bow down to your awe inspiring game collection. That’s just how your supposed to do it right?

This new box design doesn’t look half bad actually, it definitely cleans up the look of the front cover, and takes away the famous “Spiderman font” I have come to love, leaving more room for the box art.  It doesn’t look as busy and cluttered as previous games, with Playstation Network logos, and spelled out “Only On Playstation” taking up massive amounts of box cover real estate.  Look for this new design to hit store shelves when Uncharted 2 does, on October 13th.

Am I complaining about a minor design change? Does it really mean that much to you guys?  All I am hoping is that the back spine looks the same as the rest of my PS3 game collection. Is that too much to ask for?  How say you Loot Ninja?  Let me know in the comments.

Borderlands Box Art Could be the Best of the Year

Borderlands Box Art

Most games have boring box art. Borderlands does not fall into that category. Freaky guy fake blowing his head off… check. Awesome action in the blood splatter from where said bullet would travel… check. Successfully getting me even more excited for this game to ship in October… check.

I have a feeling that Borderlands is going to be a breakout hit. It’s a solid shooter with great RPG elements and tons of loot. Throw in millions of weapon possibilities and you have a recipe for success. October 20th can’t come soon enough.

Modern Warfare 2 WILL Carry Call of Duty Namesake

Modern Warfare 2 Box Art

With the uber success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, fans of the series were lead to believe that the subsequent monster sequel would be dropping the CoD moniker and be a standalone series. As it turns out, the box art we all thought we saw was not finished. As you can clearly see above, the game will remain in the CoD stable. This is done for multiple reasons. First, it makes the game that much more recognizable because it carries the CoD name. Second. the CoD series should get credit for being involved with such a great title. Activision owns CoD, Infinity Ward is making MW2.

Would we have all jumped on Modern Warfare the first time around as fast as we did if it was just called ModernWarfare? No, we wouldn’t have. The game speaks for itself and it still would have been a hit, but the hype would not have been there. Either way, cannot wait for this game. Snowmobile shooting FTW.

Does Tim Schafer Need Top Billing for Brutal Legend?

Brutal Legend Box Art Crop

EA released the box art for Brutal Legend late last night and the top billing for Tim Schafer caught my attention. Sure, all of us here have heard of the man, but what about the general public? I have a feeling most people are going to walk into a store and see his name on the box and say “Who the fuck is Tim Schafer?” EA may have been better served by putting Jack Black’s name on the cover, since he has a much more broad appeal.

I’m in no means saying Tim Schafer doesn’t deserve it; he’s a damn good game designer. However, he’s no Steven Spielberg. This type of display on the cover requires someone with a greater mass appeal to sell more copies. Sure, he deserves the credit, but putting Jack Black’s name there would have most likely moved a few more units and boosted the bottom line.

Killzone 2 Goes Gold

Guerrilla Games got cranking over there in the Netherlands and got Killzone 2 done a little early. The game has officially gone gold and will be on store shelves February 27th.

Since that’s a little over a month away, just sit back and relax and wait for one of the biggest titles of the year to hit your PS3. You could always preorder it and get the demo.

Halo Wars Limited Edition Box Art and Contents Revealed

A few days ago Microsoft released the box art and contents for Halo Wars Limited Edition.  From a quick glance it looks like Halo Wars has no toys or figurines but plenty of supplemental information is provided.  The disc is labeled PAL so I am not sure if there will be a different Limited Edition setup for everyone else.

I can see in the shots, but have yet to confirm, the Limited Edition contains the following:

  • UNSC Spirit of Fire Patch
  • Some Character Profile Cards
  • Halo Wars Genesis book

Anything I am missing?

Halo Wars is due out in EMEA Feb 27th, AsiaPac Feb 26th, and the Americas March 3rd.  UK retail price for the standard edition is set at GBP 44.99.

Halo Wars Box Art Unleashed

Microsoft and Ensemble dropped the final box art for the upcoming Halo Wars RTS. Looks pretty cool, very much in line with the covers of the Halo novels. I’m a fan.

Now if we only knew for sure that the controls worked really well…

EA Offers Downloadable Covers for Madden 09

Madden 09 Cover Jets Xbox 360

Are you cringing looking at that Packers jersey on the cover of Madden 09? Are you in desperate need to see Farve wearing the Green and White of the Jets instead? EA is allowing you have your own choice and is offering high resolution downloadable covers for Madden 09 on its website.

Glad you have the option there. I’d suggest printing this out on photo paper if that’s your thing. I still haven’t decided whether I want this year’s Madden or not, so I’ll be waiting on the sidelines with this one.

Alone in the Dark Screens and Artwork

Alone in the Dark 1

Atari sent over a fresh batch of screenshots and artwork for their upcoming survival/horror title Alone in the Dark. The game is based in New York City, particularly Central Park, where some nasty monsters invade and you have to take them down. The game is shipping June 24th for most platforms and looks to scare the hell out of you. Oh yeah, it’s pretty too.

MGS4: Box Art Revealed

MGS4 Box Art

Showing off the box art is a friendly reminder that the game’s release date is drawing nearer. This is what is currently listed on Amazon. This appears to be the final version, though we wouldn’t be surprised if it changes a little in the next few months.
