EE 2009: Rogue Warrior Hands On

Rogue Warrior finalbreath screen

Richard Marcinko, aka Demo Dick aka a crazy bastard. The man created Navy SEAL Team Six, the counter-terrorism arm of the SEAL teams. If you don’t know much about him I suggest reading his autobiography, it’s interesting. Or you can get a nice idea of how the man views the world via his new video game Rogue Warrior from Bethesda Softworks. In Rogue Warrior you get to fill the shoes of Demo Dick himself, voiced by Mickey Rourke. Needless to say there is a lot of swearing, shooting, and stabbing. It’s fun.

Fallout MMO Concept Art

A while ago we reported on the trouble faced by Interplay and their attempts to retain the rights for the Fallout MMO, speculated to be codenamed Project V13. Well a lot has happened since then, most behind closed doors. Short story is Bethesda sued Interplay to stop work on the Fallout MMO. Interplay then countersued Bethesda and a slap fight has commenced. Court ensues, more details later.

Why do you care? Because of the lawsuit all sorts of juicy details are being released, like concept art from Interplay themselves. Here is a little taste with more beyond the jump.

Broke Bastard Alert: Fallout 3 PS3 for $20

fallout-broken-steel-teslacannon

Did you miss out on Fallout 3 or maybe had a pet jackalope eat your game disc? Amazon has you covered! They’re peddling the PS3 edition of Fallout 3 today for $19.98. It’s not the Game of the Year version, so you aren’t getting all the DLC, but if you just want to experience to core gameplay and save a few bucks, it’s definitely worth the purchase.

My recommendation is to just go for this deal and get the one DLC package that expands the level cap to 30, Broken Steel. You’ll save money on the GoTY edition and still a lot of awesome gameplay. What are you waiting for?

Review: WET

WET

So I got my copy of WET in the mail yesterday, and I was impressed by the story, and then immediately underwhelmed by the gameplay. The story is good. Not awesome, but good. Rubi is a “fixer”. A better description would be a “Kill whoever, or GET whatever, at any cost, as long as you pay me” type mercenary. I like this aspect of the game, because you get the feeling that Rubi is only in it for the money, and nothing else. Just cold hard cash, and her sense of righteous indignation. Right off, you are hired to procure a steel briefcase from a low-level Chinese drug pusher who double crossed someone to get the case. This is the opening cinematic, and also the tutorial level of the game. After this, the story changes drastically, and gets much, much better. I REALLY don’t want to divulge anything further, because the story is really one of the best parts of the game and redeems it somewhat for me.

Making Your Xbox Grey and Dreary

Fallout 3 Xbox Theme

Yesterday the guys over at Bethesda threw up this screenshot and a little bit of knowledge. Bethsoft is dropping a premium theme for Fallout 3 thanks to a few artists throwing down a lot of effort. If you are a fan of the wasteland you can make your NXE look like a bomb dropped on it for a mere 240 MS buckaroos. If you are a REAL Fallout 3 fanboy and buy all the DLC / expansion packs (or whatever you kids are calling them these days) before 22-Sept, you can get this theme for FREE! Free is great, but it comes at the price of 5 more adventures in the wasteland which translates to many many many more hours of Fallout… almost too much for me to bear, but I’ll try anyway.  Kudos to Bethesda for getting Microsoft to give something away for free! Sort of anyway.

Fallout 3 DLC Coming to PS3 Next Week

Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta Screen

Fallout 3 is finally getting DLC for the PS3 version of the game starting next week. Bethesda today pushed out a patch for the game to optimize a few things as well as add Trophy support for the DLC. Next week, Broken Steel drops, so you’ll be able to run up to level 30 with the first DLC package. The follow week (October 1st), both Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt will be released. Finally, on October 8th, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta will be available to purchase. That is a ton of content in a short period of time.

To go along with the PS3 DLC, Bethesda finally confirmed the release date for the Game of the Year editions, which will be available at retail starting October 14th. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will run you $59.99 while the PC version will be $49.99. The GoTY editions contain all DLC, so it’s a nice bargain if you want to wait a bit longer on the PS3 and pick up the game.

Demo Impressions: WET

WET Screen

Too much wetness (or lubrication) is sometimes a bad thing right? We don’t need no slip ‘n’ slide…

I was scouring through the game demo section of Xbox Live last night downloading a few of them to pass the time, and I ran across the WET demo.  I went ahead and included it in my long list of Indie games to try out (thanks for the good memories Power Hour and The Drinking Game) for the night and was pleasantly surprised, and then underwhelmed.

Eliza Douche-koo (actually it’s spelled Dushku) adds the voice of our estrogen filled hero Rubi, a dual-wielding slo-mo assassin type aficionado, set in this Kill Bill-esque world.  The demo really doesn’t give away any of the story included in the game, so I was left to my own devices to come up with the story line.  Here is what I think happened…..

New Bethesda Reveal “In the Next Month or So”

Bethesda Logo

Game developer Bethesda – you might remember them from such games as Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion – announced today that they will be revealing a new game “in the next month or so”, according to MTV.  While exciting, this is not the Elder Scrolls 5 announcement I’ve been waiting for, but rather confirmed as a game other than Fallout or Elder Scrolls, and not an iPhone game either.

I’m curious to see what it is – Bethesda’s parent company, Zenimax, recently bought id Software, so chances are it could be a Bethesda/id type of game along the lines of Brink.  I guess we’ll find out within a month or so.

No New Elder Scrolls Title for a While

Oblivion01-500

I’m a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls titles, especially the last two.  I probably spent a couple hundred hours with Oblivion alone.  I loved the game so much, I sold my PS3 copy and bought the Game of the Year edition for the Xbox 360 so I could download the add-on content for it, which wasn’t available on the PSN (with the exception of the major expansions).

So, its unfortunate too see this news being passed around to various gaming sites.  At QuakeCon 2009, Peter Hines from Bethesda was asked by a fan about the future of the Elder Scrolls franchise, and he advised not to expect a new title anytime soon.  While this doesn’t confirm a new Elder Scrolls game of some sort isn’t in the works at all – perhaps its in the conceptual stage and will still take years to come to fruition – it is still a blow to those of us who are fans of the franchise.

I do respect their current love-child, Fallout 3, but I just can’t get into that game as much as I could with Oblivion, perhaps because of the setting.  I was hoping, now that they’re wrapping up the Fallout 3 DLC they have planned, some news about a new Elder Scrolls title would be just around the corner.  Now, this doesn’t seem to be the case.  Let’s hope Bethesda at least has some inkling on the direction they’re going to take the franchise and don’t plan to abandon it altogether.

Anal Probing Coming to Fallout 3 on August 3rd

Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta Screen

All of you that have grand delusions of being taken aboard an alien cruiser and being probed anally will get to relive those fantasies in the upcoming Mothership Zeta expansion for Fallout 3. For 800 space bucks, you’ll be able to board the alien ship and fight your way to the bridge in order the save yourself and humanity. PS3 users will have to wait a while.

I was a bit worried how this alien expansion would fit into Fallout 3, but it looks like it just might work out pretty well. If you want to see all the bulbous alien heads, hit the jump for more screens.
