When you were young, were you one of those kids that always wanted to dress up as a biker? Well, now it’s possible because Microsoft has released GTA IV The Lost and Damned inspired Avatar clothing available on Xbox Live. The list of biker gear includes leather jackets, leggings and even a skull ring, my personal favorite.
Hopefully Microsoft keeps giving us game inspired clothing for free. How cool would it be to equip your Avatar with a Ghostbusters inspired proton pack? We can always dream.
As always, the clothing is free to download and it’s marked with a gold star so you know it’s fresh. The list is long so check it out after the jump.
A service that was previously only available to those who reside in the U.K. is now available to U.S. residents. The Free Your Avatar portion of xbox.com allows users to create a custom image using Avatars and some very random clip art. Users are also able to import their own items to place in the editor and create custom sizes to display for profile pages.
I hate to rip on a free service but Free Your Avatar is extremely limited and basically worthless. There is no way to manipulate the images in any meaningful way, you can only move them and zoom. Even if you use the zoom feature it is enlarging a small image which becomes incredibly distorted.
Instead of using Microsoft’s editor, I recommend downloading your Avatar images fromthispreviously known link. Just change the gamertag portion of the URL to your own gamertag. Fire up any image editor and voila, you have a much better Avatar editing service.
If you aren’t computer savvy enough to do that, I guess the Free Your Avatar service is more for you. Good luck.
So the Xbox 360 avatars came and went. People were more or less blaise about it. When the word of charging for clothes came out, people blew off the concept altogether. The old adage does hold true however; give people free shit and they will pay attention. Rare will be handing out clothes as an achievement prize.
“In time… games will be able to give away clothes and accessories just like Achievements,” said art head Lee Musgrave. “We are currently working with multiple partners who have expressed interest in using Avatars,” added producer Stacey Law.
A good idea involving avatars? The end is nigh. In the above picture, I’m the Morpheus looking guy. I have to make him taller.
This week we have a slew of sporty shirts that are “European National Football Teams.” There are 18 shirts in all. I wasn’t going to put every single shirt on my Avatar so I decided to pick a single country out of the hat. Now my Avatar looks just like an Ikea employee and so can yours.
It’s too bad the shirts aren’t American football teams. I can’t wait for the day that I get to sport a Minnesota Vikings jersey on my Avatar.
A full list of the countries is located after the jump and like always, the new clothing is free and marked with a gold star to signify its freshness.
This week’s set of Avatar clothing is loaded with various polo and jacket combinations. There is even a fancy set of red suspenders with plaid pants. It never hurts to sport suspenders, it’s hard enough for kids these days to keep there pants up near their belly button with just a belt.
Don’t worry though, whatever clothes you choose to wear is alright with us, there is no such thing as a tacky looking Avatar. I promise.

Now you can dress like you are a virtual pimp with the snazzy blue tuxedo or one of the many other variations. I would have decked out my Avatar in the ladies clothing for display purposes but Microsoft still won’t allow us to cross dress. Oh well.

I wanted to post all of our Xbox 360 avatars earlier, but family obligations had my tied up. So, without further ado, I present to you what we all look like in fake-Mii form (yep, I went there).
Pictured above is all of us, but if you want to see who’s who, hit the jump. You know you want to.
Is your avatar freezing his virtual balls off? What is a horseshoe? Are there any horse socks? Is anyone listening? Does anyone care? Movie…? Anyway, go download some winter duds for your avatar. They are free so why the hell not? Amount of questions allowed in one post exceeded.
We have more Next Xbox Experience news rolling in today. Gamerscoreblog has a rundown of some of the games that will include your newly created avatar along with some of the features that go along with the avatar system. They also hint at a newly created Xbox Live Arcade title that will incorporate fully playable in-game avatars, whatever that’s supposed to mean.
The XBLA titles that will include avatars are: UNO!, Bomberman Live, Hardwood Hearts and Hardwood Spades. In addition to these titles, Microsoft’s own Scene It? Box Office Smash will also incorporate in-game avatars. The game will get a title update on the NXE release date, November 19th that will allow all of this to take place. Now go watch Major Nelson interview the crap out of Stacey Law and Scott Brodie, Microsoft’s avatar program managers.
