EA announced today that Army of Two has been pushed back until the first quarter of 2008. The game was originally set to ship in November, but EA needs more time to polish the game.
In an interview with 1up, Alan Tascan, VP and General Manager of EA Montreal and Army of Two Executive Producer, discussed the delay. Specifically, 1up asked why the game was delayed so late in the development cycle. The game had already gone out to reviewers before the delay was announced. Here’s Tascan’s response:
This was based on a lot of feedback we had internally and externally. Where we failed is in questioning whether we could really make the game better. I agree with you that this decision came at the last second, but it still came and I think that’s better for everybody. I think the fundamentals are there, we just need to add in the extra polish that we now have the time to do.
Can’t really complain about the team wanting to polish the game further. Just disappointing we won’t have this game for the Holiday season. It was definitely towards the top of my list. The delay means I’ll have more time to spend with the game as there’s less out there around March.
