I miss those games. You know, like Time Crisis, Area 51, Virtua-Cop, and the Silent Scope series. I’d think with all the motion controls on the Wii, or the PS3, we’d see a few more games like that. Sure I can walk down to my local arcade, and MAYBE find a few of those good old games, but I don’t like walking, or carrying change in my pockets, so…
I know it’s not really a big portion of the video game market, but there is just something about holding that light gun and seeing the brains splatter. I even remember playing Virtua Cop 5 for HOURS, trying to beat the game with all crotch shots. Heck, I’d have bought a Wii just to play those games again.
In the world of retro reviews there is always one given: the reviewer is usually in his/her thirties. For many of our younger readers, this may seem…what’s that word…awful. But for those of us who were around in the young to middle years of the video game industry, it simply means that: A) We have more points of reference, and B) We appreciate things that back then were truly awesome.
The X-Men arcade game was one of those truly awesome things.
It’s early code on a test arcade machine, but Street Fighter 4 looks to shaping up nicely. I’m really glad they stuck with 2D. The animations looks fluid and I really like the art style. Can’t wait for this to ship State-side.
Microsoft sent out a press release to let us know that there will be discounts on three Xbox Live Arcade games this week.
Bankshot Billiards 2 will be dropped to 900 MS Points from it’s normal 1200 MS Points, while Frogger and Hardwood Spades will be 300 MS Points instead of 400 MS Points.
The reduced prices run from 12:00am GMT (8am EDT) September 26th through 11: 59pm GMT (7:59 p.m. EDT) on Tuesday, October 2nd. So in case you don’t have these games and want to save some cash, get downloading this week.
Basically, it’s a series of tests, presented in the form of short exercises to flex one’s various shump related skills, like dodging, hit box targeting, and the such. Kinda like Brain Age… but for shooters! Each game is packed with all sorts of references and in-jokes… one had you simply shooting at tokens, with the boss being some old sit-down, 80’s bar-style Space Invaders machines, pictured in the first snapshot. In the third is another game in which you have to shoot the garbage into the trash bin. I couldn’t really understand what was going on since it was heavy text-wise, at least the in-between rounds, analysis portion of the game.
Sounds pretty damn interesting. I wish the arcade scene would take off here in the US. I miss throwing down some quarters with friends.
