DBZ: Burst Limit Thoughts

Dragon Ball Z is a huge franchise, but I think it is one thats time has passed it by, especially here in the US. DBZ was a giant anime a few years back, but you just don’t see that many kids watching it anymore, they have moved on. This is still huge in Japan, but in Japan not many people purchase Xbox 360’s, they just never gravitated to the console. This seems like flawed logic to release this title on the 360, I would have left it as a PS3 exclusive and hoped it had the same success of Budokai, I don’t foresee much 360 action here stateside because of lack of interes and in Japan because of lack of console love. The game looks pretty solid so far, but I don’t see myself purchasing this one. What do you think?

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword Review - DS

Ninja Gaiden

Let me start by saying that I had my doubts about this game coming to a handheld due to the complexity and great gameplay of the console versions, but I was pleasantly surprised by Ninja Gaiden on the Nintendo DS. It is innovative in many ways, the style in which the DS is held (sideways) and the character are controlled (100% stylus control) are unique and add to the gaming experience. Ryu Hyabusa never looked better on the go.

Presentation and Graphics: Mini Ryu Hyabusa looks great on the Nintendo DS. Cut scenes are done in very appealing anime style clips, much like reading a comic book. The hack and slash is done very well on the touch screen and the other screen serves as a map to guide you along your travels. 8.5 of 10

Review: No More Heroes (Wii)

NMH
No More Heroes is a stand out title on the Wii for a few reasons, stylistically and content wise it is unique to any other offering on the system. No More Heroes places you as a hitman, but not just any hitman, one that is striving to be number one and in order to do so you must take out a list of other murderers. It presents itself in a very dark, yet funny way and really tries to be different, which for the most part works well and makes it like no other title for the Wii.

Jeanne d’Arc (PSP) Impressions

Jeanne d’Arc Screen

There’s not much to do on vacation in the middle of the wilderness on a lake with no internet, cell phone service, and only 3 channels on TV. Thankfully I had my PSP and a copy of Jeanne d’Arc. I got to spend a good deal of time with the massive handheld RPG and I’m very impressed. The story revolves around Jeanne (aka Joan of Arc for those Westerners out there) trying to save France in the Hundred Years War. Throw in some demons helping the English and King Henry gets possessed, and you’ve got yourself a grade A RPG.

The graphics look good for a PSP title. There’s a lot of anime pre-rendered cut scenes which are very cool, and the in game graphics have a nice cell shaded feel to them. As expected in an RPG, there’s a lot of reading and not a lot of talking. I really wish some developer would put voice overs in for RPG’s. With the size limitations on the UMD disk, I doubt it would make it onto the PSP anyway.

The gameplay is fluid with a very compelling story. You have battles at virtually every setting you visit. The battles consist of your outfit fighting against demons and English soldiers, which a specific task to win (ie. defeat the English soldier, move your troops to the North end, etc). For the turn based combat, you move your selected troop to where you need him/her to attack or use a spell, item, etc., then go at it. Even though it’s semi-repetitive, you don’t get that feel from the game due to the different environments and choice in what 5 troops you want to fight.

Overall, I’m having a very good time with Jeanne d’Arc. It’s a very long game, clocking in at around 40 hours, which is monstrous for the PSP. I think that may detract some buyers who are looking for quick pick-me-up games on their handheld. I’ll have a full review up later this week as I get some more time with the game.

Heavenly Sword: Legend of the Sword Anime Part 2

Here’s part 2 of the 3 part anime series showing off the back-story of Heavenly Sword.

No HD version yet, but it will be available on the PlayStation Store on Thursday in HD.

Heavenly Sword: Legend of the Sword Anime

Sony is producing a multi-part anime series to fill in some of the back-story of Heavenly Sword. Here we present you with part 1 of that series, Legend of the Sword. No word if these will be included on the game disk when it ships

This feels a lot like 300 to me….
