Broke Bastard Alert: Fallout 3 PS3 for $20

fallout-broken-steel-teslacannon

Did you miss out on Fallout 3 or maybe had a pet jackalope eat your game disc? Amazon has you covered! They’re peddling the PS3 edition of Fallout 3 today for $19.98. It’s not the Game of the Year version, so you aren’t getting all the DLC, but if you just want to experience to core gameplay and save a few bucks, it’s definitely worth the purchase.

My recommendation is to just go for this deal and get the one DLC package that expands the level cap to 30, Broken Steel. You’ll save money on the GoTY edition and still a lot of awesome gameplay. What are you waiting for?

Buy PSN Content from Amazon

PlayStation Network Logo

Not to be outdone by Microsoft, Sony announced today that you can now buy PSN content from Amazon. Right now, only around 200 pieces of content are available for purchase. When new content will be added is anyone’s guess, as we were unable to reach Sony for comment at press time.

Just like the Xbox 360 counterpart, your purchase from Amazon will yield a download code that you can enter on your PS3 or PSP to download whatever you want to purchase.

I’m a big fan of this system, especially when you get Amazon gift cards or use Coinstar to get credit with Amazon. Will make it easier than finding PSN cards, as long as content is available on both the PSN and Amazon at the same time. If Sony has a delay in getting content to Amazon from the release date on the PSN, consumers may just skip the program altogether. We’ll have to see as time goes on how well this pans out.

Preorder Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition Now

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition

Amazon is on point today, already offering the Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition for preorder for both Xbox 360 and PS3. If you have a spare $150 sitting around, go ahead and drop it for this bad boy.

Personally, I’m going to stick with the regular edition for MW2. I don’t have much desire to play the original Call of Duty anymore and don’t need any art books for the game, so I’ll save some money here. I’m usually all over collector’s editions where you get cool stuff, but $150 is entirely too much.

Going On’s in the Game Industry

In the turbulent times we are living globally, I thought it would be relevant to highlight some of the industry happenings as there are potential impacts to the gaming public.  Hopefully this will continue as semi-regular Loot-Ninja feature.  The following have been the recent headlines in no particular order.  Hit the links for the Loot-Ninja articles.

Lots of grim news financially and lots of studios shutting down, downsizing, rightsizing, etc.  The global recession taking a toll on the gaming industry, probably.  The above news updates are pretty similar to latest news in the banking industry.  In case you’ve been living in a cave for the past year that means things are not very good.

Cooper Lawrence Admits Fault in Calling Mass Effect Video Game Porn

lies.jpg
Chances are you never heard of Cooper Lawrence and chances are you will never again. Last week she went on Fox News to promote her new book, The Cult of Perfection: Making Peace With Your Inner Overachiever. She decided to call Mass Effect, the hit space RPG, video game porn. She went on and on to insult the game simply because of a 60 second “sex” scene, where you see the ass of one of the female aliens. Having never played the game herself, she passed judgment. How did the gaming nation respond? Thousands of gamers when to Amazon and gave her book the worst possible ratings and reviews catapulting it into oblivion. After realizing you don’t get into flame wars with gamers, she recanted.

I recognize that I misspoke,” she said. “I really regret saying that, and now that I’ve seen the game and seen the sex scenes it’s kind of a joke. Before the show I had asked somebody about what they had heard, and they had said it’s like pornography,” she added. “But it’s not like pornography. I’ve seen episodes of ‘Lost’ that are more sexually explicit.

So from Loot Ninja, and the rest of gamer nation, Cooper, fuck you lady. Thanks for trying out. Maybe next year, Gilmore.

Halo Novel #5: Contact Harvest Available Oct 30

This may not be groundbreaking news, but I just realized and figured a reminder would be in order. The 5th OFFICIAL book in the Halo series, Contact Harvest will be released Tuesday, October 30th. Even though Eric Nylund is not the author here, I look forward to reading this. I have read the other four(Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx), this will certainly be a nice addition because it is a prequel. Here is a little backcover preview for you:

This is how it began…

It is the year 2524. Harvest is a peaceful, prosperous farming colony on the very edge of human-controlled space. But we have trespassed on holy ground–strayed into the path of an aggressive alien empire known as the Covenant. What begins as a chance encounter between an alien privateer and a human freighter catapults mankind into a struggle for its very existence.

But humanity is also locked in a bitter civil war known as the Insurrection. So the survival of Harvest’s citizens falls to a squad of battle-weary UNSC Marines and their inexperienced colonial militia trainees. In this unlikely group of heroes, one stands above the rest…a young Marine staff sergeant named Avery Johnson.

Don’t expect any Master Chief or Spartans. He was not born yet and they were not invented yet, but this does tell how this conflict began. Avery Johnson is a bad ass by the way. Looks a little like the Carl Weathers character from Predator doesn’t it???

PlayStation Eye Pricing, Release Date Somewhat Revealed

PlayStation Eye Camera Image

Pricing for the upcoming PlayStation Eye camera has been somewhat revealed. The PS3 camera will only be available with the Eye of Judgement game.

Amazon is giving a release date of October 23rd with a $59.99 price tag. Seems like a good deal if you’re down with tabletop card games.

I’m still taking issue with the USB ports on the PS3 to use the camera. To leave it hooked up all the time, you have to plug the camera in via the front USB ports on the PS3 (there are none in the back). I hate seeing wires in my entertainment center, so I’m doubtful I’d use the Eye camera that often.

60 GB PS3 + 8 Blu-ray Movies = $475? Yes.

save-money.jpgWhat might be the deal of the century, ps3fanboy.com reports that you can get mentioned above for the low low price of under 500 bucks.  Here are the directions that they offered:

  • Add the 60GB PS3 to your amazon.com shopping cart.
  • Choose three Blu-ray movies from this list and add them to the cart.
  • Right before checkout, you’ll see the discount applied.
  • Then, you’ll get a rebate form for five more Blu-ray movies. Even if you don’t want to be part of a next-gen movie format war, this is still one of the cheapest ways we’ve seen to get a PS3 — the free movies are a nice added bonus.
