Making a horror game is a lot like making a horror movie in that its very difficult to scare people but at the same time entertain them. Herein lies the task of Alone in the Dark. The game has some great ideas and some amazing fire effects, but a bland story and sub-par control systems might make you want to stay in the dark as long as you can.
The upcoming horror/adventure game, Alone in the Dark, has made its way onto to Bittorrent sites and FTP. There have also been reports of the game breaking its street date in the UK. Atari got wind of this when several gaming sites have reviewed the game without officially receiving advanced copies. Loot Ninja will be getting a copy soon, but not until Atari sends us one. Some reviews were also very mixed on the game and Atari is not happy with the bad publicity. When asked to take the reviews down, the sites refused stating that they had purchased the game in a store. This has only occured in Europe, but the fallout has landed all the way in the US.
Atari released a duo of trailers about Central Park for their upcoming horror title, Alone in the Dark. Every new bit of information about the game gets me even more excited. I think Atari has a winner on their hands.
Alone in the Dark is coming soon. If you have a thing for setting fires or just plain killing monsters, this title is probably for you. Here’s a trailer that shows off the cool control scheme for the Wii. Atari did a damn good job here at making everything work great with the Wii’s motion sensing controls. If you aren’t a graphics snob, you might want to consider this version.
You know, a good piece of music can really turn a trailer from good to great. Take this, for example. Alone in the Dark looks great, but this is the best trailer I’ve seen yet. Not sure what the track is, sounds like it could be something along the lines of DJ Shadow. It’s cool as hell though.
Along with setting a ton of stuff on fire, you also get to kill a bunch of monsters in Central Park in Alone in the Dark. The game is shaping up nicely, based on everything we’ve seen thus far. Can’t wait to get some hands on time shortly.
Atari sent over a fresh batch of screenshots and artwork for their upcoming survival/horror title Alone in the Dark. The game is based in New York City, particularly Central Park, where some nasty monsters invade and you have to take them down. The game is shipping June 24th for most platforms and looks to scare the hell out of you. Oh yeah, it’s pretty too.
An actual look at some in game footage from the upcoming horror shooter. The game plays much better than I expected. The gun play does not look as polished as I would like, but the game is still being tested. Graphically, I was very pleased. This could be a nice addition to some of the lackluster horror titles out there.
Atari is running a contest right now where they implore their readers to send in the creepiest nature pictures you can find. They specifically request parks . They are probably keeping it to just nature so that they don’t get some borderline criminal shit. You know damn well people would be sending in things along the lines of “2 Girls, 1 Cup.” Do yourself a favor and don’t google that. Here is the link for the official rules. They have weekly winners and seem to be giving away game soundtracks(weak), but will probably up the ante when the game’s release draws closer.
