Don’t get excited. There won’t be any asian massage parlors or strip clubs or gladiator fights. That’s not their idea of adult themed. They think its like a random casino or something lame like that. Here is what Sony said:
The Home Platform Group director then suggested that while nothing sinister (read: pornographic or illegal) is likely to appear in Sony’s world, it is possible that the odd casino could pop up or perhaps movie theatres where users could go to watch mature-rated videogame trailers.
Acknowledging that many other adult-only themed areas could conceivably come into play, Edward reinforced Sony’s ultimate control by saying that “we have the ability to age-protect areas, and I think that’s something that we will inevitably make use of.
At least they are moving in the right direction. No timetable set for any possible Hot Karls in the near future.

So you say that you like Age of Conan, well I got one better for you, Age of Bonan. I have to say the title is quite catchy and brings a quick smile to my face, yes it is an adults only version of Age of Conan presented by our friends over at Whorelore (a.k.a. same guys who did World of Whorecraft).
More than just people having sex in costume, “Rage of Bonan” actually recreates the very first quest in the game, which involves rescuing a bound, scantily dressed woman by killing a nearby enemy for the key to her shackles. Granted the woman in the game was blonde and it doesn’t actually end with a sex scene…though I am sure it did in the minds of many of the males and not a few of the females who played through it.
I lie that they recreated the first quest, brings new meaning to the phrase looting the booty. This project snuck up on me, I knew they were working on some WoW stuff, but Age of Conan as well, good times. I have been looking to pick this game up and may end up looking for a guild and these guys may be a perfect fit, www.whoreloreguild.com. (Except I have to check out that my rig can handle it. The game not the pr0n, LOL)

I recently wrote an editorial and was pretty much attacked for my thoughts on the Lack of Nudity in video games, seems like even a mention of nudity brings people into a tizzy. The attacks ranged from some valid points to just utter ramblings that I was a pervert. Although I like nudity that does not make me a pervert and anyone else who does.Even Kotaku decided to take some shots at us, which I think is great actually, but at least use the entire article. I think I was taken a bit out of context and yes I used hyperbole and jest to make a serious topic a bit fun to read. This topic is a great one and I would love to discuss it in more depth without joking with anyone. Having an AO rating and not using and limiting video games because developers are afraid of getting their merchandise banned from shelves is unacceptable.
The fact is that video games currently do not employ nudity as part of the medium because they do not want to deal with the outrage of parents and conservatives alike. A lot of comments came in both through our site and some others discussing the overall topic, many agreed that having more nudity in would be fine and applauded as long as it fit into the story line of the game. Then there was the other side that blasted the idea and said that putting any nudity into a game would automatically make it into porn!?

I have to tell you that there is an utter and constant lack of nudity in video games. Why can’t I play a mature rated game and see some gratuitous breasts walk by? The first major game to incorporate any kind of mature content was God of War with the mini game where you had sex and got extra Red orbs. GTA tried to have it incorporated into their games, but was reduced to calling a hooker over to your car and driving to a shaded area where the car just jumped up and down.
Since majority of the video game players of the world are over 18, putting in some sex or just random nudity shouldn’t be a problem. Don’t we have a fully robust ESRB system where games are clearly marked as Mature or Adult only? I can see people just coming out of the woodworks to complain that there is nudity in a game and that a child might be able to see some tits before his nuts have dropped, but again isn’t that why games are rated? What other purpose do the small letters in the corner of games boxes serve?

Today Rockstar announced it’s Launch date of Manhunt 2 for this Halloween, October 31, after a change in the rating of the game to M from AO. After their initial rating of Adults Only, there was much speculation about the plug being pulled. It’s nice to see that the game was brought back and givven an M rating, now let’s hope that it is more entertaining than the first one.
From the press release:
New York, NY - August 24, 2007 - Rockstar Games today announced it will release Manhunt 2 for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, and the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo in North America on October 31, 2007. This announcement follows the submission of a modified version of Manhunt 2 to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), who has now rated the title “M” for Mature for ages 17 and older.

Well, it’s now official. The ESRB has rated Manhunt 2 as an Adult’s Only (AO) game.
From Take Two (via GamePolitics):
Manhunt 2 was created for mature audiences and we strongly believe it should receive an M (Mature) rating, aligning it with similar content created in other forms of media. We are exploring our options with regard to the rating of Manhunt 2.
So how is this going to affect the average gamer? Well, for starters, you aren’t going to able to rent this game anywhere. Blockbuster and Gamefly have already confirmed they will not carry any AO rated games. Beyond that, most stores aren’t going to keep this out on the shelves. So you might not be able to just waltz into Best Buy and pick up a copy.
It’s already been banned in one part of the world, and given the dreaded AO rating here in the US. Maybe Take Two needs to look into toning the game down a bit if they want to make any money.
What are the odds we see He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named on TV tonight talking about this?
