Here is a list of the new planes that are available to download off of XBL. One plane is free, but the others will cost you between 200-400 points. The game is awesome by the way and Gamefly is sending me a copy now; I played it on a friend’s machine. I’m not a huge fan of paying for anything supplemental to a game and Maps are the only exception. Click more for the list and appropriate pricing. If anyone has bought these planes, let me know how they are.
Time Magazine might be the most recognizable magazine in our country and maybe the world. They have covered some of the most turbulent times in history and now has taken a stab at video games. Jesus tapdancing Christ. Here is the list. I will save you the annoyance of clicking through.
Halo 3
Half Life 2: The Orange Box
Rock Band
Super Mario Galaxy
Bioshock
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass
Mass Effect
Ace Combat 6
God of War 2
What the fuck? I understand that PS2 is last gen, but you better have a huge set of balls to rate God of War 2 lower than Ace Combat 6. Somehow the DS version of Zelda beat out the wii version? Metroid was not even mentioned. Bioshock rated lower than Rock Band? Rock Band is fun but you cannot even begin to compare to the two. Halo 3 sold hundreds of millions of copies but that does not make it the game of the year, ironically, winning no major awards at the VGA’s. Half Life 2, hey, great port, but number 2? Also notice, not one PS3 exclusive title made it. A chimpanzee could have picked these games out of his ass in a better order.
There are two kinds of people. Those who like flights sims and those who do not. This game may convince some haters to enlist because the demo was an absolute blast. The graphics were astouding and the controls were very receptive. The demo lets the player take on what is most likely the opening level and it will take about 15-20 minutes to complete. The plot seems to follow a fictional country being invaded and the air force is set out to stop them until the invaders go nuclear on your ass. Although the demo options were limited as demos usually are, there will be much more aircraft to choose from in the release title as with more weaponry. This game is not easy however. You don’t get radar lock, fire away, and move on. You need to be in a decent attack angle in order for your missile to hit. Guns require you to be very close, which is understandable. The game promises to allow you to control air, ground, and naval forces with the D-Pad and this can be done in the demo by pressing Up while you have a target selected and your nearest wingman will engage. This could very well be the first great flight sim of the next gen. You owe it to yourself to give the demo a try and see what you think.
I played Ace Combat 4 for the PS2 and loved it and I am by no means a flight sim guy. This game looks awesome and especially with the online capabilities, I might have to get some buddies of mine, fly some missions, then play a homoerotic game of volleyball to the tune of “Playing with the Boys” by Kenny Loggins.
