Is the Activision/Infinity Ward Feud the Death Knell of Modern Warfare?

The recent events over at Infinity Ward are shaping up to be something out of a bad movie script. According to sources, the President and Studio Head of IW ( they are the studio behind Modern Warfare, both of them) have been let go for apparent insubordination. To top it off, apparently security guards are escorting people out and their office resembling something of Darth Vader boarding a rebel ship in search of a renegade Princess and a couple of gay droids.

Review: Plants vs. Zombies (iPhone)

Finally after a ton of anticipation and some delay, Pop Cap’s hit tower defense-esque game Plants vs Zombies lands in the iPhone App Store! Now anyone who’s read Matt’s review of the MAC/PC version knows that this game is awesome. Very awesome. I dare anyone to play this game for a half-hour and see if it doesn’t turn into three. Don’t blame yourself however, it happens to everyone that picks it up. With the switch-over to touch screen the only question that lingers now is: how does this compare to the MAC/PC version? Click on the link to find out.

Borderlands: Secret Armory of General Knoxx Glitch

I’ve been playing the shit ton out of the new Borderlands: Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC.  I just can’t get enough of it!  It’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a DLC.  More gameplay, more awesome guns, more enemies to kill, more vehicles, just more everything!  I’m almost finished with my first play-through for my review here on Loot Ninja, and one thing I came across was a glitch that happened right before you enter the armory with all of the chests and precious loot.

The way the game is supposed to work is you start a countdown sequence in the armory and you have two and a half or three minutes to grab as many guns and open as many chests as you can.  This glitch allows you all the precious time you need.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Today for me is like nudie magazine day for Billy Madison. No, it has nothing to do with Sony finalizing fixing the PSN or Bad Company 2 being released (although I am picking up my copy of that after work). Today has more meaning: baseball. That’s right, today is the first Spring Training game of the year as the Mets take on the Braves.

Not only that, but this year’s baseball games get unleashed upon the world. While I have very high hopes for MLB 2K10, I’m not sure it can dethrone The Show. We’ll know shortly, though.

How about you? Are you picking up either baseball game today, or is Bad Company 2 making you go from six to midnight? Stop looking at me swan.

Review: Bioshock 2

Two and a half years ago, 2K mesmerized us all with the original title Bioshock. The game offered a unforgettable mixture of action, storytelling, scenery, moral ambiguity, and above all us, a great game. Bioshock was so well received that it was GOTY in many circles beating out much more high profile titles. Cough, cough Halo 3. 2K now has the impossible task of not only matching Bioshock’s success, but attempting to surpass it in the “what have you done for me lately” world of video games. I can’t believe how long it has been since I last visited Rapture. The minute I fired up Bioshock 2, I realized I had waiting far too long. Welcome Back.

I Ask You Loot Ninja?

I recently traded in 9 of my used games over at GameStop because of the awesome 50% more trade-in credit promotion they have going on right now.  Games that I really don’t see myself going back to play through again, or those I have simply completed everything in the game, got traded in.  Alone in the Dark, Mirror’s Edge, NHL09, Batman: Arkham Aslyum, and Left 4 Dead all started to collect dust on my gaming shelf.  I’m not going to go through the whole list of games I traded in, but you can kind of see why I traded them in.  Most of them are either mediocre games or they already have a sequel out (or will soon).  With those 9 games I traded in, my 60% trade in credit applied (I’m an Edge card member),  I accrued $86.00 in store credit.  Not bad.  Now, the question is, what do I put that towards?

I know Matt already mentioned the release heavy month of March in a previous article, but I don’t consider myself an MLB fan, I’m not really a Final Fantasy type of guy, and I haven’t played any previous God of War games.  I know, sling me up and slaughter me, but the only game I can potentially see buying is BF: Bad Company 2?  Even then, I have an extensive backlog already of games that I haven’t finished yet (and some I need to do for Loot Ninja reviews).  Plus, with the numerous glitches in Heavy Rain, that’s yet another title I’ll have to put on the backburner until a patch is issued.  What I could do is probably wait and get BF: Bad Company 2 later when the price drops and potentially get 2 games?  If I did this I could beat a few games in my backlog?

The question is, what games are you guys looking forward to in March and beyond?  If you were in my situation, what would you do?*

*[And yes, I did in fact go out and scour the internet for a picture of that crappy 90's TV show hosted by Marc Summers "What Would You Do?" for this article.]

Come on Sony… Really?

Sony has had its fair share of ups and downs with the PS3. What happened yesterday can be seen as one of the lowest lows. Due to some insane firmware issues that have yet to be 100% determined or confirmed, PS3’s around the world all cried in out in anger. Errors causing no PSN connectivity, preventing offline game play for those with dynamic Trophies, and general system crashes are spreading. Apparently it doesn’t affect PS3 Slim owners, although I haven’t turned on my system since last Thursday, so I can’t say for sure if my Slim is affected.

What’s really disturbing is that this “bug” is affecting debug PS3’s as well, meaning developers are stuck in endless reboot cycles and unable to test and develop their games properly. Great way to start your week leading up to GDC. With crunch time here for a lot of studios, it’s not a great time to be sitting around not able to do anything because all your test kits don’t work.

Some say it’s an issue with the internal clock, others say Gremlins. While Sony has stated they’re working on the issue tirelessly, it still leaves gamers (and developers) with a very sour taste in their mouths. Come on Sony, get your shit together. If you want to pull yourself out of last place, and it’s obvious you do, there can’t be these major issues repeatedly. I’m going to play my Xbox 360, because at least that works right now.

Week in Loot Ninja – March 1st Edition

February is over and I’m ready for warmer weather. Baseball is in season and those games drop this week along with Bad Company 2. God of War III is right around the corner and it’s shaping up to be a killer month of gaming. I’ve got an insanely busy week, so I’m hoping to squeeze in some time for all the new games. We’ll have to see how it goes. For now, catch up on all the goods you might have missed last week.
