4th of July Fireworks War

In tribute to this great day off we call July 4th, here is a crazy video of some kids having a good old fashioned fireworks war set to some thumping Firestarter music. Why is it when you are a kid firing flaming balls of heat at each other seems like such a great idea? Enjoy and Happy 4th of July!

24 Hours Later… Sony Still Working on Firmware 2.40

PS3 Firmware 2.40 XMB Trophies

It’s been a full 24 hours since the new firmware 2.40 was pulled from the update servers. We heard from Sony yesterday that they were looking into the issue, but that’s about it. A post on PlayStation.Blog saying the same was put up yesterday around 7:30pm ET. Nothing else has been said. What’s the deal?

We contacted Sony and have yet to hear back. It seems that they don’t want to comment on just what’s going on here, which leads me to believe they really aren’t sure what’s causing the issues. While a huge majority of people had no problems when installing v2.40, a few got bricked consoles (wouldn’t turn on, gave errors, etc.). It seems the problem lies somewhere in the install process.

Hopefully Sony drops word soon. I have a feeling the internet will go into an uproar when they release the PlayStation Store update and still don’t have a fix or any word about the firmware. We’ll keep you posted.

[Update] I just spoke with Jeff Rubenstein at Sony. He confirmed they are still working on the firmware.

We’re still examining the cause of the problem. We’ll announce as soon as we are ready to resume the system version update.

[Update 2] We received a link to the exact file that the PS3 checks for updates. This file still indicates version 2.36 as the current version. Check it out.

Metal Gear Online Download Pack Coming Soon

mgo.jpg

The word on the internets, i.e. Google translator is that on 7/17, Japan will get the first DLC for MGO. Here is what they are supposed to receive:

- Johnny and Meryl will be added.
- Now able to make Female Characters.
- 3 new stages including Shadow Moses, Mei Ling’s Ship, and MGS1 Heliport.
- Official Survival Mode added.

Also starting 7/4, two new rules will be added:

-Team Scanning (Teams will split into Sneaking and Defending, Sneaking team will be able to use Stealth ability)
-Head-shot Only Kills (Optional Rule)

The pack will be 1200 Yen and you can add a character slot with the pack for 1500 Yen.  How much is a Yen? I guess it depends on the ratio of leprachauns to unicorns. Hopefully we will be seeing this stateside soon enough.

iPhone- Rolando Game Teaser Trailer

Here is the teaser trailer for Rolando from Handcircus, this is an iPhone/iPod Touch game due out for release this Summer. For a possibly free iPhone game it looks pretty fun, it reminds me a lot of Lemmings and should utilize the touch screen very well. The music in the trailer is pretty good and I hope it makes its way into the final game, it adds a certain flair to the game.

This should be the first of many iPhone/iTouch games to come seeing as game companies have gone as far as opening studios dedicated to this platform.

Red vs Blue: Reconstruction - Episode 5

This one is a bit slower, but still pretty funny. Church FTW. Although, I still prefer Donut. Probably my favorite RvB character.

Diablo III will get PVP - Say Goodbye to PK

D2
Blizzard has announced that the ability to kill other players in game (affectionately known as PK’ing) is a thing of the past. PK’ing will not be part of the Diablo III gameplay and instead is giving way to a full fledged PVP system. PK’ing was a big pain in the @ss in the first two Diablo games as players would kill you and harass you, even in town which was the worst.

Blizzard recognized the nuisance that PK’ing was and has instituted a PVP system similar to its World of Warcraft brother where players can choose to fight against each other to gain honor. There was no honor in PK’ing as the other person could not fight back and would lose their items every time.

Diablo III is already shaping up nicely and it is still only an announcement.

Rock Band Video of the Day - July 3rd Edition

Our first Rock Band Video of the Day in July. Woohoo. Here’s one from this week’s DLC: “Who’s Going Home With You Tonight” by Trapt. They’re a great band, and this a good song. Not one of the hardest, but looks pretty fun to play. I’m looking forward to picking this up later today on the PSN.

If you’re wondering, both myself and our good buddy azuritereaction / sskitzzo are using an amazing drum pedal mod called The Destroyer. It’s a real drum bass pedal modded to work for Rock Band. My first reaction was holy dookers people. This is the best thing to happen to Rock Band drums. Check out our review here, but you need to buy this. If you want to improve your drumming, go pick one up from Rock Band Pedal.
