Editorial: GRAW 2 and Rainbow 6: Vegas Comparisons

GRAW 2 ScreenGRAW 2 (PS3) versus Rainbow Six (Xbox 360), which game provides more hours of enjoyment? The fact that I am debating this means I spend too much of my own time playing tactical shooters than anything else, so theses opinions might only matter in my head. After writing the mini review on GRAW 2, I felt compelled every word to mention how I felt it matched up against Rainbow 6, which in my opinion is one of the best tactical shooters for campaign and multiplayer. The options it gives for customizing a shotgun with a rifle scope or any other weapon with a players prefered scope is a top notch feature. I think on 360 the one issue I had is the amount of time needed on multiplayer to unlock the uniform options and upgrades for your personal character. While I haven’t dove into GRAW 2 multiplayer yet, I still think the Tom Clancy team had the right game plan set with Rainbow Six.One issue which I think is much better on GRAW 2 is how players can actually sneak and slide into areas, this is extremely lacking on Rainbow Six, something that just never made sense for a game built more on inside environments rather than outside areas as in GRAW 2. Secondly, GRAW 2 provides the UAV which helps identify enemies, yet Rainbow Six only gives you a snake cam, which in certain scenarios is amazing to use, but it doesn’t help much if you can’t sneak up on the enemy.Whether or not this games are supposed to be different in certain gameplay areas, I still believe if each of these games used the same format, yet made the story different it would broaden the equality of the games. I mean, you really can’t use an Apache helicopter or Abrams tank effectively in Rainbow Six. Well you could, it just wouldn’t make the game much fun blowing up the building you are in. Is it too much to ask to combine Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six and GRAW into one game? LOL.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 (PS3) Review

GRAW 2 Screen

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (a.k.a. GRAW 2) is the second in the series of Advanced Warfighter titles from Tom Clancy, this for the PS3 system. The battle yet again takes place in Mexico as Captain Scott Mitchell handles the task of battling insurgents and attempting to stop complete mayhem. Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of GRAW 2 for the PS3:

Presentation and Graphics: Like the previous titles, GRAW 2 continues with its trend of providing exceptional picture quality for all ranges and characters in the game. The HD 1080p 50″ TVs give an obvious edge over smaller ones, but you still won’t miss out on the action here. 4.8 of 5

A little courtroom humor

This is in no way related to anything technological (maybe for the stun gun that was used), I just think it’s hilarious:

Dell…Everyones favorite phone support company

So apparently I seem to have issues with two big companies, hopefully I am not the only reading this who has had issues before with Dell computers. Nothing against the company, because they are great at putting any computer together and the service I have received has been exceptional. It’s just the amount of times I have needed service for a 7 month old laptop. I got the laptop in June and right off the bat had I issues with Mcafee conflicting with Windows Updates, of which I had to call Dell and work this issue out. Maybe my issues should have been with Mcafee on that one, but as soon as that problem ended I had the infamous “blue screen” issue every time I would turn my laptop off, take it somewhere and plug it back in. Luckily I know my way around computers and how to handle most conflicts, with a little research.

Low and behold though, Dell never sent along a Windows XP installation disk nor did they have a backup saved on the computer. YAY!! So I had to call to get one. Then I did chkdsk and within the past 3 months I have pressed “chkdsk /r” around 5 times. Normally most people would be calling Dell and asking for a new HDD or laptop (considering I have a 4 year warranty), but I think due to my stubborn behavior I am rebelling because I have put so much effort into it. Along with the blue screen, I have also had issues with the batteries not working correctly. So maybe there isn’t anything new or mind numbing here, I just needed to comment about. I will be much more inclined to call Dell once I tweak my desktop and buy an external. My overall suggestion…if you know how to build a computer or know someone that does, put the effort in that way so if you have an issue, you can only blame yourself and don’t have to go through hours of phone conversations with Tech Support. Happy January 25, 2007.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself. Mankind. Basically, it’s made up of two separate words “mank” and “ind”. What do these words mean? It’s a mystery, and that’s why, so is mankind.

Gotta Love Microsoft (sarcasm is very high)

So after speaking with Drunk Black/White Large Animal last night about his issue with Microsoft Vista updates and Quickbooks, Microsoft seems to be having issues with Wikipedia as well.

Crackdown Demo

So I got bored and listened to Panda to download the Demo for Crackdown, mainly cuz I don’t make any posts. LOL. The game loads a lovely photosensitive seizures warning, among other suggestions, please make sure you sit far away from the tv. Decent start up techno music with the start up screen consisting of a 360 view of the city with 3 tabs for options, main menu, and agency info (which includes map, gang dossier, achievements and leader board – not accessible now though) Playing the campaign mode you can choose Tough, Ruthless or Psychotic difficulties. Demo Mode has an accelerated skill progression, with only certain capabilities able to be unlocked and used. It starts with you standing in a garage and you must run to pick a vehicle and then drive off to part of the city. In the Agency I chose the SUV to “drive over any obstacle.” Los Muertos “The Dead”, is the only gang island you can go after in the demo. The other two gangs I can tell right now are Volk and Shai-Gen.

Driving into the city to help the local authorities takeout part of the gang, is a main part of the game and you can explore and kill anyone in site. You are able to take any weapon from the dead criminals and bring them back to your hub to use them any time later on in the game. Which is a cool feature if you find a gun you really like and the ability to jump to any agency during the game.

While in the mission I ran over an green Agility orb (1 of 500). These I assume update your characters abilities. You can enter these supply points and choose any weapons to place in your arsenal, reload all your ammo and exit, and go to another supply point you have entered previously along your travels. Pretty tight when you run around the city collecting Orbs, almost like the packages in Grand Theft, except these actually help you out. HAHA. Every time to you encounter gang members and shoot at them, squad cars fly into action and help you out. I reached 2 stars in firearms and I have 30 minutes of demo time remaining. Low level bangers is a key phrase used often and I will now have to start saying that in person, hopefully to the next person that calls my phone. As well as the Agility Orbs, there are also Blue Hidden Orbs (300). My time limit ended, but overall this seems to be a great game. I am very pissed I have to stop playing because you can pretty much do anything with your character, running and jumping across the city, lifting objects, shooting people. Falling and getting shot doesn’t seem to do much damage…on this level at least, mainly because body armor regenerates and body cloning is available.

Overall I rank the Graphics a 9.0, even though it isn’t life like, the cartoonish feel is amazing and every character looks nice. The music isn’t as advanced as other games, but that really isn’t a huge factor to me. I think the game play is very simple, so I give the learning curve about 10 minutes and overall a 9.5. I think this game has a lot of potential, especially with online and coop play for those that enjoy it. Thats all. This is basically my first main, in depth review. So I am sure it sucks. Oh well.

I am alive. Yay.

Hello out there. I am alive. I just finished my thesis for my Master’s degree in Sport Administration at the University of Miami. Things have been extremely stressful for the past month and now the job search continues. If anyone is interested in reading it, let me know. It is on “Psychological testing in Major League Baseball.” I am looking into Major League Baseball for a front office job.  Other than my upcoming graduation December 14th and my move back to New Jersey on the 16th, there hasn’t been much room for any technological updates in my life.  Started playing Oblivion game simply to do the side quests and kill everyone in game. HAHA. I am waiting the arrival of Lost Planet.

One tidbit on any video game update I do have is Gears of War is ridiculous and my roommate has been playing Kingdom Hearts 2 nonstop. Probably one of the most in depth games and fun games to watch. Regardless of the fact you use a key as a weapon, you never once think about the blood or violence, even though you do fight enemies, the concept Disney came up with for that game is great.  Can’t wait to get a PS3 soon and eventually get Final Fantasy. Those games are very time consuming and enjoyable.  Happy Holidays everyone.

I wasn’t going to say anything.

So, after being in a total state of shock and disbelief I didn’t think I would be able to muster any thoughts today, that all changed when I read a couple articles online.  Being a diehard Mets fan from birth, last nights loss hurt a lot, I didn’t cry because I have been through worse loses, it was just the way it happened that hurt the most.  First off, Rob Neyer was quoted as saying “Oliver Perez is the worst pitcher to start game 7 and not only resign, but I’ll donate my salary from this season – which I’ve saved, just in case – to the animal shelter of your choice.  Because of course we’re supposed to always be right,” if he shut the Cardinals down.  And he did. Perez you did a great job for the circumstances you were in last night.  It was a shame, the two things we had all season couldn’t help you out – the bullpen and our bats.

From the beginning of the season everyone criticized the Mets starting pitching, and they had every right and it even turned out to be true with Pedro going down as well as Hernandez (who we didn’t have to start the season).  But the bullpen and hitting was there all year – except for some odd reason in the playoffs.  The loss hurt because of the 10 men we left on base and Heilman giving up the ninth inning home run and we couldn’t score again with the bases loaded, which in my time watching this team has been an on going theme, regardless of how many were hit earlier this season.  And for Beltran to go down looking really hurt.  To think both loses at home were in the ninth inning, by our bullpen. The starting pitching really did a great job.
To top things off, the Cardinals not only won at Shea, but were chanting “Jo-se, Jose, Jose” in the clubhouse and laughing while doing so.  That is just wrong and hopefully karma bites them in the ass HARD. It’s also funny because finishing up graduate school, the one main contact I have is high up in the Cardinals organization (not mentioning names) and I liked the organization, even after the rifts the Mets had in the 80s with them.  But after Pujols discredited Glavine’s Game One start and now this chanting, really got on my nerves. Win with class, not by being an ass.

Minaya, Wilpon, Willie, Beltran, Reyes, Wright, Delgado, etc… thank you for an unforgettable season and I know it hurts you guys more that it didn’t end with a World Series trophy and to bring the 3rd title to Flushing.  Get focused in the off season and get healthy.  In my projections I would like to see the front office go after Soriano to play second (even though he did a great job playing left field, but I think Milledge can fill that spot nicely) and Zito for pitching.  Milledge and Anderson Hernandez can really build nicely to add to this team.  The bullpen should be solid when Duaner comes back and definitely keep Mota, Bradford, Heilman (if he wants to stay, he definitely is a better relief pitcher than starter).  The starting rotation should be nice with Pedro, Glavine, Maine, Bannister, Pelfrey and if we can get Zito, it should be a real formidable rotation. The offense should only get better.

Thanks again Mets. NL EAST Champs 2006, Division Series sweep over the Dodgers.
