Why did the frog cross the road?
I remember hours of playing Frogger, helping that silly little frog cross the street. Frogger Returns (by Konami Digital Entertainment) is now available on Nintendo WiiWare and it will cost you 500 points. Players get to help Frogger get out of the city and back to the marsh lands. Now how he got in the city in the first place is a mystery, maybe they thought he could sing.
Frogger Returns has 12 times the content of the original game plus enhanced graphics, new camera angles and multiple levels. Even has multiplayer capabilities. Frogger Returns should also be available for the PlayStation Network later this month for $4.99.

River of snakes

The Spore franchise continues to expand and grow. EA announced yesterday that Spore Islands is available on Facebook. Actually it’s been available for about a week, I’ve been playing it with a friend. You pick an island then build and color your creature utilizing DNA points. Friends can send a creature to your island and you can build one to send to their island. During observations, you can see the creatures eat, fight and lay eggs. The one with the highest points win.

During observation
You earn points when you or someone else observes your creatures. It’s a fun little game that is a nice break from Farmville and Mafia Wars. The only downside I have found is that you can only earn 12 DNA points at a time. To get more, you have to spend money. The incentive to spend the money is to buy hats and parts to add to your creature. I’ve not seen a need to spend money on it but it’s still fun.

C&C Red Alert for iPhone
EA mobile is bringing 5 new games to the App Store. Now you can play NBA Live, EA Sports FIFA 10, Mystery Mania, Boggle and Command & Conquer Red Alert on your iPhone or iPod touch.
Now four of those games I can see being able to port to the iPhone but Command and Conquer? I played that on on the PC and I’m having a hard time envisioning that as a playable phone game, but then it seems they have offered other Command & Conquer games. Upcoming features will include free multiplayer and the Empire of the Rising Sun expansion pack. I’d be interested to hear how it plays from anyone who buys it.

Slice and dice machete action
Valve may have pumped the hype on it’s new upcoming game Left 4 Dead 2. Pre-ordering the game allowed us to play the demo about a week ahead of releasing it to the public. As previously reported, we waited all day on Tuesday for the game to be available. The time kept getting pushed back and people were getting anxious and pissed off. Though outwardly it could be seen as a bad move on Valve’s part, the buzz was going around and people were talking. The delays pretty much fueled the human desire to want it more.
After waiting for over 24 hours Valve finally unlocked the Left 4 Dead 2 demo at around 8:00 pm EST. After restarting Steam and waiting another 20 minutes for the game to decrypt, I was finally able to play. The demo consist of two maps from “The Parish” campaign, set in the New Orleans French Quarter. It was daytime and having been to New Orleans several times, the setting was very realistic. It even had the old corner bar with a jukebox that played Jonathan Coultan – Re-Your brains. It didn’t take long for the zombies to find us and the fun to begin. The regular horde zombies come in a wide variety and when you shoot them, they really blow apart. Lot’s of blood, guts and gore, if you shoot one in the back, you can even see their backbone.

Left 4 Dead 2 Cricket Bat
Where the hell is my Left 4 Dead2 demo?
For unknown reasons, the PC version of the Left 4 Dead 2 demo remains locked on Steam. I pre-ordered this game so I could get an exclusive cricket bat and an early look at the demo. We were told that we would get to play the demo at 2:00 pm on Tuesday Oct. 27th, then the time moved to 4:00 pm, then to 11:00 pm and then 2 am. So I set my alarm to get up at 2 am and I now learn that the demo won’t be available until later today at 4:00 pm EST. The worst part of all this, the XBox version was available at the first time posted. They got their download codes and were playing and streaming on Justin.TV all night. I’m happy for them but it sure sucks for me.

Harvest Moon: Animal Parade
If you love Harvest Moon and own a Wii, then here is a game for you. The developer Natsume announced today that Harvest Moon: Animal Parade has gone gold and will available for purchase on Nov. 10th at a price of $49.99. They are offering a Limited Edition Plush Duck when you pre-order.
Here’s the storyline, as usual there’s trouble in a village called Harmonica Town! Crops aren’t growing, the wind isn’t blowing, and the five elemental bells are missing. Only the power of the Harvest King can revive the land, but he’s nowhere to be found. It’s up to the player to find the five bells, awaken the Harvest King, and save the town! There are lots of other activities including fishing, mining, growing crops, and caring for wild and exotic animals such as penguins, pandas, and monkeys. Even a Circus visits the town offering new quests and animals. Sounds like this one might be different enough to be interesting.

Family Game Night 2
Mr. Potato Head is back and he’s ready to boogie. Hasbro Family Game Night 2 is coming for the Nintendo Wii this month. New games like Operation, Jenga, Boppit, Pictureka and Connect 4×4. Check out the video EA released and watch the potato man dance. It might not sell games but it’s kind of cute to watch.

Texas Tea
If you’ve ever been to Las Vegas and played some of the popular slot machines, you’ll know what I mean. The fun of a video slot machine is not only the chance to win big but the chance to get one of the high paying bonus rounds during the game. While shopping in Target yesterday I found a new slot machine game for the PC and Mac by IGT called Texas Tea. It contains some of the great slot games I’ve played like Texas Tea, Tailgate Party, Rich Girl and Uncle Sam. IGT is a slot machine manufacturer and now they are releasing some of the popular (but not the most current) slot machine games into a PC/Mac format. What a way to squeeze every bit of cash flow out of a product and I love it. I already own a previous IGT game that include slots like Little Green Men and Unicorn. This is going to save me lots of money, I can spends hours of mindless fun playing slots and never step foot in Vegas. This could be a great gift for mom for Christmas.
EA sent out a short new trailer for the Nerf N-Strike Elite for the Wii. This game was previewed on Loot-Ninja last month. If you missed the article you can read it here. Due to hit stores on Oct. 27th, 2009.
