So I get an email from Matt asking me if I wanted to review a football trivia game. Since I live and breathe the sport, I said absolutely. The guys over RTL were nice enough to send us a code and like a kid on Christmas, I rushed to download it and test my trivia against my roommates, who all wanted in on the action. I believe dishes were the bet. The game is finished. I fire it up. The biggest soccer ball I have ever seen fills the screen. Umm.. what? As it turns out, it is not an American football trivia game, but soccer. Yeah, a little surprised and was in line to do the dishes for the next week. Despite the mix up, I played the game and it is a very good trivia game.
As if you needed anymore reason to buy this game, here is a look at all the teasers and trailers that have led us up to this moment. Next Tuesday, it is on like it has never been on before. See you there.
What is better than video games and really hot chicks? When said really hot chicks are dressed up as video game characters. After the jump is our official Loot Ninja Cosplay Girl of the Week. There is an untapped genre out there for gaming. It is co-op survival/horror. Left 4 Dead is a shooter, and Resident Evil 5 more killing and less exploring. If someone could make a game where item collection and exploring were paramount, co-op was truly co-op, and a great backstory, the game would be a hit. Obscure: The Aftermath is a direct PSP port from the PS2 game that was released last year. The game touches on all those aspects, but falls a little short of being considered very good.
Tonight could be the last MLB baseball game of the year, Go Yankees, so here is something relevant and something funny. Baseball and nut shots go together like steak and blowjobs. Both awesome.
I know, I know. A movie based on a video game. How can this possibly not turn into another Uwe Boll disaster? Well, a few reasons. First, it’s a Disney film. That doesn’t mean it is juvenile because Disney did all of the Pirates of the Caribbean films. They were really, really good. (except the third one). Second, the visuals look tremendous. Low budget, this is not. Third, it is a story 98% of the people in the world know nothing about, so they have to tell it from square one. This could be a great film. It could also be Max Payne 2.0. Watch and ponder.
How many of you spend an inordinate amount of time playing online shooters? A lot of hands in the air, great. How many of you do not wear a headset because you don’t want a teenager yelling racist/homophobic slurs at you because you didn’t listen to their directions on how to flank the enemy? Yeah, still a lot of hands. I rarely ever wear a headset for those reasons and only do so when I can play with friends in a private chat. This was the case in Gears, CoD, Halo 3, you name it. Now, that dream is no more. MS is killing Private Chats in Modern Warfare 2 because players could give away enemy locations when dead and gain a competitive advantage. Really?
Today is the first work day after Halloween. You may be hungover, like me, or suffering from insulin shock because no trick or treaters came to your house and you ate the entire bag of fun size Butterfingers, like Matt. In my high school years, before we could drive, many a weekend night was spent playing N64 with beer we stole from someone’s garage or got a homeless guy to buy for us. We spent those nights playing either Goldeneye or WWF No Mercy. The latter was an absolute masterpiece for wrestling and great beyond its years. THQ solidified themselves as the studio who knew wrestling and what its rabid fan base wanted out of a game. The SvR series has since replaced those titles and every year seem to get a little better, but falling short of overall greatness. In SvR 2010, they got it right.
