I know we don’t usually cover tech too much around here, but I wanted to share my experiences from this past weekend and earlier this week. If you have a Mac and want to run Windows, one of the easiest and best ways is to virtualize the OS. You can run Boot Camp, but then you need to restart and keep them semi-isolated. But what if you want to run both side by side? You have two real options: VMware Fusion and Parallels Desktop. Both recently came out with new versions that supposedly are the bees knees. I own Parallels 3 and paid for the upgrade to version 4 without thinking. What happened next wasn’t pretty.
Join us this week as our one armed bandits discuss what they’re all currently playing, the New Xbox Experience, Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned expansion pack, and Wrath of the Lich King goodies. Some discussions of eating at the strip club buffet, great adult websites, swapping products at Walmart, Spaceballs, eating way too many Stack Attacks, and McNugget eating contests while wearing Snuggies get thrown in and hilarity ensues.
Entrance music: Gimme the Loot by The Notorious B.I.G.
Exit music: Montage from Team America: World Police
The Holiday season officially kicks off later this week and all the big ones have dropped. What does that leave for this week? Not too much, really. Sonic Unleashed comes to the Xbox 360, Chrono Trigger comes to the DS, and that’s about it. Save up, folks. You’re gonna need it.
You’ll have to excuse me if I’m not all there this week. I’ve got a horrible family emergency going on, so my mind isn’t really focused on games. But that doesn’t mean we can’t look back and see all the good shit we brought you last week. In case you missed anything, here’s the goods:
One of my favorite comics growing up was The Punisher. The vigilante thing just appeals to me, not sure why. I was very excited when No Mercy was first announced for the PSN and this trailer only makes me want the game even more. Check it out.
Do you know how fucking bad I’ve been wanting a really good Batman game? It’s been forever and no one has really gotten it right. I have extremely high hopes for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Asylum game from Eidos. It’s dark, gritty, and looks to bring the Batman universe in gaming to where it should be: quality and fun. Check out the debut trailer and decide for yourself.
You heard that it’s coming, but now you can see a bit of what you’ll get to play. You’ll be playing as the new main character, Johnny Klebitz, a member of the Liberty City biker gang The Lost. I’m sure you remember fighting a couple of their members during the GTA IV story and hearing about their hijinks on the radio. Now, it’s your turn to step in. The story in The Lost and Damned will run parallel to Niko’s story, so there very well could be some interaction with the characters from that story arc. Who knows yet, Rockstar is being pretty tight-lipped.
Check out some more pretty screens after the jump.
Last night I had the chance to discuss Disney Interactive Studios’ Ultimate Band with Tim Huntsman (senior producer), Mark McArthur (development director) and Mike Thompson (art director) from Fall Line Studio. The game is launching November 25th on the Wii and DS. In case you don’t know, it’s a rhythm game with no peripherals but with actual songs to play.
The team at Fall Line Studio set out to make a performance based game to take advantage of the unique controls schemes offered on Nintendo’s platforms. Development began back when the Wii was still called the Revolution, Rock Band didn’t exist, and Wii Music was still a budding idea in Shigeru Miyamoto’s head. The game was designed for tweens and teens in mind, especially boys, so this appeals more to the younger generation.
The forums are going to be down for a little while thanks to a few pranksters that are endlessly attempting some SQL injection attacks. While they aren’t getting anywhere since I’m OCD about security, it is driving the CPU and RAM usage for the server through the roof. You may have noticed the site was down a couple times in the past two days.
So instead of just dealing with it (I’ve banned the IP’s on the server firewall, but they just use different proxy servers), I’ve decided to take the forums offline for a while. They’ll be back before you know it, so sit tight for a bit and comment more on the main site
