Wii Remote chargers have become a dime a dozen. Everyone and their mother makes some sort of charging station since Nintendo decided to pass on the whole rechargeable battery deal. I’ve gone through a number of chargers, but only recently found the Induction Chargers from companies like Energizer and Nyko. While I’ve previously used and been happy with the Energizer system, Nyko’s new Wii Charge Base IC takes the cake as my new Wii Remote charger of choice.
The build quality on the Charge Base IC is fantastic. It’s hefty and feels like a premium product — something you don’t find very often in the world of charging stations. The upright stand I tested holds two Wii Remotes, while a four Remote Charge Base is also available. Like other induction charger systems, this will juice up your Wii-motes with the condom jackets attached, so you don’t need to worry about yanking the remote out, disconnected your Wii Motion Plus or anything of that nature. The Charge Base IC holds the remotes magnetically so they stay in place and look sexy all at the same time. An additional powered USB port on the back of the unit allows you charge whatever else you need. I’ve been using that for my PS3 controllers instead of powering on the PS3 to charge them.
The one annoyance I have with the Charge Base IC is how bright the LED indicator lights are all the time. When charging, they light up blue and turn to green once the Wii Remotes are fully charged. If you have any intention of keeping these in a dark room, you might want to turn the Charge Base IC off at night so it doesn’t look like an all night rave is going on in your room (thankfully there is a power button on the front to shut it down).
If you run through AA batteries on your Wii like it’s your job or just need a new and better charging system, there’s no better place to look than Nyko’s Wii Charge Base IC. It’s available in black or white to match your Wii Remotes and in either two or four remote configurations. The smaller two remote setup will run you about $35 while the larger four remote unit will cost around $50. It’s well worth your money to pick one of these puppies up.
