Japanese gamers get a lot of special treatment.  They get exclusive games we never see, game content all over the place, and even get to enjoy Final Fantasy XIII flavored gaming elixir like I mentioned yesterday.  One thing that we can mark off that list is word that a new color for the Nintendo Wii console will be hitting US soil soon.  How soon you ask?  It’s being reported that GameStop (the above picture was taken by an employee) will be putting out advertisements for the new bundle up on May 4th.

I assume this will be the US release date for the black Wii bundle, but on the other hand, we still haven’t seen pictures of the new black Wii yet.  Usually around this time details start to surface of a new SKU in someone’s system, or they sneak a few pictures of the console in the back room before launch.  They should at least start getting a few of these black Wii’s coming in right? Right?  It’s still a chore to find a Wii, much less get to be able to choose the color you want.

If you haven’t bought a Wii and are in the market for one this might be the bundle for you.  You get the nicer looking black Wii, Wii Sports Resort game and Wii MotionPlus for only $199.  That’s essentially the same price everybody else has paid in the past and just settled for Wii Sports and regular old Wii-motes.

I’ve personally always loved the slimmer look and feel of the color black.  Sure, it doesn’t slim down and hide fat rolls from a 300lb monkey woman with hairy armpits, and it doesn’t bring the Wii’s graphics up to next-gen standards, but this is a great move for Nintendo.  I originally thought that with the launch of the Wii they would continue the trend and bring out new colors for it as they do with the DS handheld console.  I have been continuously let down with the bland white color since launch.

The only problem I see with releasing a black Wii is that like all other things that are black (like cars and TV’s for example), the color black shows more dust and dirt.  I don’t know about you, but my Wii has been collecting dust for quite some time, and if I had gotten a black Wii it would look even worse in my gaming cabinet.
