Gears of War Movie Falling Down an Emergence Hole

The once great $100 million epic that was supposed to be Gears of War is beginning to look like it may not even happen at all. Sources say the budget is being cut, the director may be looking to do other projects, the writers are doing re-writes, and no word on any actors confirmed. Does this means the movie is completely dead? No, it doesn’t. Is this what I wanted to hear? No way.

In the article linked above, he compares a possibility of it being a District 9 type film. Medium budget, amazing story, great movie. This is where I digress. Nothing about Gears of War is not epic. The story, the characters, the enemy, the scope of the war, it all has to be done on a huge scale. The entire planet is overrun and cities are being sunk into the ground. I would much rather see the project wait until proper funding, writing, direction, etc. can be accomplished instead of a gimped out, cheap version of a great story.

Do you really want to see a Gears of War movie with Starship Troopers 3 type of special effects? It would kill the franchise. It is the same reason no Halo movie has been done yet. Halo CE came out a decade ago. There was plenty of time to make a movie, but it has to be near perfect. The fans are owed at the minimum a great effort and not ploy to make a quick buck. You cannot rush perfection. You do that, you get the often terrible game to movie adaption and a parade of disappointed fans and investors scratching their heads.
