There was an explosion of great console games in 2009. All three platforms saw price cuts this year with the release of some major titles. Too many great games were made to fit into our list, but we managed to narrow it down to the best three for the year. You know you want to find out which games we picked. #3 – Batman: Arkham Asylum – Review Excerpt:

Getting the bronze medal is Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game is everything the trailers and hype lead us to believe. A truly awesome game that redefines how all comic book games need to be. Not half-assed to appease fanboys. Not rushed to meet a movie launch. Not campy to sell toys to kids. This game sticks to its roots. This is not only the best Batman game ever made, it’s the best comic book game. We know we said this, but it needs to be reiterated. There are challenge rooms, tons of trophies to search for and riddles to solve. You can play for 8 hours if you steamroll through it or 20 if you take your time and don’t use a FAQ. Don this cape and cowl. Games like this only come along every so often.

#2 – Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 – Review Excerpt:

The silver medal goes to Modern Warfare 2, which is without a doubt the top dog in multiplayer FPS this year. You need this game. Even Ryan’s hardest-of-hardcore Halo buddies are loving this game, and playing it non-stop. You need this game. Please, if you are still on the fence about it, don’t be. Campaign 5/5, Special Ops Mode 5/5, Multiplayer, 5/5. You need this game….wait, did we say that already?

#1 – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – Review Excerpt:

And the Best Console Game of 2009 is Uncharted 2. The game does pretty much everything right. With amazing graphics, exciting gameplay, and a storyline that makes you want to play through until the closing credits, this is the type of game that you will want to play again and again. It is also one of those games that your friends won’t mind watching you play. It is that good. If you own a PS3, go pick up this game. If you don’t own a PS3, go buy one and this game. If you don’t have money, find a friend who has a PS3 and make him buy the game so you can watch him play. If you don’t have any friends, well then you are just shit out of luck.

It was a very very close race this year for the top spot, but Uncharted 2 takes the honors. Notable runners-up include Borderlands and Infamous, both of which deserve a purchase.
