#3 – The Sims 3 – Review Exerpt
In third place is The Sims 3. Always a favorite, The Sims 3 offers a never ending playground of fun. The Sims can travel through the whole neighborhood, explore new careers, garden, cook, interact with ghosts. This is one of Merrie’s all time favorite games.

#2 – Left 4 Dead 2 – Review Excerpt:
Coming in second place is Left 4 Dead 2. If you’re still intent on not picking up Left 4 Dead 2 because it’s just “more of the same”, you’d be right – it is more of the same, and that’s a good thing – it’s improved upon and makes the original game look rather primitive in comparison. I’ve barely even covered exactly what makes L4D2 such an improvement over the original, mainly for the sake of space. There are tons of other little things Valve has done with the game – dismemberment, team versus mode, an actual story line, dynamic weather effects, randomized level design (including extraction points), et al – Left 4 Dead 2 is everything the original game should have been, and more.

#1 – Dragon Age: Origins – Review Excerpt
Our winner for Best PC Game of 2009 is Dragon Age: Origins. If you’re a fan of Bioware games or just classic RPGs in general, you’ll want to grab Dragon Age, if you haven’t already. The game stands as a testament that Bioware can still evolve and refine their tried and true formula for story based games. While it doesn’t do much in the way of groundbreaking mechanics, everything the game does do has been polished to a shine and then some. Solid animations, impressive graphics, a sleek and near flawless interface, all backed by an epic and cinematic score make it the favorite game Karl’s played this year, if not his favorite RPG in recent memory.
And there you have it, our picks for Best PC Game of 2009. Some very close runners-up included Plants vs. Zombies and Machinarium, but they didn’t make the final cut. Check back tomorrow for our picks for Best Console Game of 2009!
