It’s that time of year again. Loot Ninja is bringing you our picks for 2009’s Game of the Year. We’re breaking it down into various categories leading up to the overall Game of the Year pick coming Wednesday. Check back every day for something new.
Today we’re kicking things off with our picks for Best Mobile Game of 2009. This category encompasses all gaming devices you can take on the go, including the Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, and the iPhone. Want to find out who gets the nod? Hit that jump.

#3 – Peggle – Review Excerpt (XBLA version):
Coming in third place in our voting is Peggle for the iPhone and Nintendo DS. It’s is a fantastic game for anyone looking for a challenging and engaging title. It’s easy to pick up and play, but absurdly difficult to master. You may spend hours on a single map, attempting to complete a single score challenge, but that is the joy of the game. Peggle is extremely fun, extremely addicting, and extremely challenging so don’t miss out on the fun.

#2 – Scribblenauts – Review Excerpt:
Taking second place, Scribblenauts is an absolute blast. Coming up with inventive ways to solve each puzzle and collect each Starite will keep you coming back for more. There are hundreds of levels to complete in the game, making this is great value for $29.99. Every DS owner owes it to themselves to check out Scribblenauts.

#1 – Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars – Review Excerpt:
And our winner for 2009 Best Mobile Game is Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. It’s an experience that every PSP [and DS] owner should have. It is impossible to overstate how great this game turned out. Even for those who played the DS version to death (like BJ), this version has a feel all its own. Buy immediately. Seriously, turn off your computer and go. Like now-ish.
There were plenty of great mobile games this year, but these were the cream of the crop. If you want to know our picks for Best PC Game of 2009, check back later today.
