Review: Payload (iPhone)

Payload1

Payload fits perfectly into a niche that I like to call “poop-session” games. Yes, that’s right. I play games on my iPhone while I poop. Don’t we all? Anyways, Payload (pun intended) is the perfect game for when you really need to squeeze out one of those prostate milking growlers of epic proportions. You use the iPhone’s tilt controls to move your dump truck back and forth across the screen, as you collect falling objects. You also collect power-ups and special upgrades as you garner more and more points. The falling objects change with the landscape, of which there are 5 to choose, a Forest, a Quarry, an Ice/Snow landscape, and a City Landscape. In each, your falling objectives will change. For instance, the quarry landscape will have falling boulders, where the Forest landscape will have falling tree trunks and logs. Beware for objects too large to catch though, as they will crush your truck!

Payload2

Payload has an online versus mode, so you can play against other people online. While this is a very cool feature I think more iPhone games should have, I never once found anyone playing online to compete against. Payload also features several achievements, awarded much like PS3 trophies or Xbox 360 Achievements for completing certain tasks on each map. At only $0.99 cents, Payload is a great game for when you just have a few minutes alone, on your special porcelain throne. Except for Matt, after he makes his “Uber Anus Scorching Chili”, then you have up to several hours of gaming time.
