Review: We Cheer 2

We Cheer 2 Screen 1

[Editor's Note: The review was written by my wife, Vanessa, who was very excited to play this game. As a member of her high school dance team and a former cheerleader, she's the most qualified person here to write this review.]

We Cheer 2 a lot of fun, well for a girl. It might be fun for some guys out there though, as they do have male characters. The game is a close representation of cheerleading with training lessons so you can learn each move. When you move on to performing in the Championships, you can watch each routine before competing. During the routines, you are prompted by a trace line that shows you how and when to move your arms, so there is no need to fully learn each routine. Each routine has beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels and you have the option to choose your song and stage with more songs and stages unlockable as you rack up points.

The game is a great way to get off the couch. It’s high energy, yet you can tailor it to your experience level. If you want to take it slow you can spend a lot of time in training going through moves one by one and can slowly put them all together. Then when you’re ready, jump into the Championships and continue to work your way up in difficulty. There are so many different options it will take a while to get bored. I really like the workout feature that uses cheering moves to help you get in shape. Another alternative to the Championships is a cheer off. You can do this against the AI or with friends. If playing with friends, you can have up to four players and you battle each other. We Cheer 2 also offers a lot of customization where you can make your own uniforms and squad.

My biggest complaint is the limited music selection. You start with only a few songs and slowly unlock others as you earn points. Most of the songs are very age specific, so if you’re not a tween, you may not like much of the music. I also didn’t have much interest in the party games, but if you’re with a group playing and you want to do something different than cheer, this may be of interest to you. My only other complaint is it is difficult to fully learn all of the routines. They aren’t broken down piece by piece as if you were learning a real cheerleading routine. You don’t need to know the routines to score well in the game because you just follow the trace lines, but I would like to be able to do the real routines. I guess I’ll have to keep playing over and over to learn them.

Overall I really liked the game and I think the tweens and teens out there will love it. Great idea for a Christmas gift!
