EE 2009: Army of Two: The 40th Day Hands On

army of two 40th day screen 2

Shooting, explosions, and bro-mance. What more can man ask for? Army of Two: The 40th Day provides making very a very bro-mantic game. Like the original, a co-op focused 3rd person shooter proved to be very fun. Playing along side someone else on the expo floor it wasn’t easy to hear in order to coordinate efforts but the game was still playable.

I enjoyed the tactics employed by the baddies to handle two targets at once. The level design also allowed for multiple approaches making it quite interesting to play across. Co-op is a big push for this game, but you will need to play with someone you know and can talk to. Controls and graphics were pretty standard affair and there were plenty of directional indicators across the level to help you figure out where you need to go. The boss battle presented was enjoyable, requiring teamwork to defeat.

I can see this game being thoroughly enjoyable but can completely fail in two areas. Teammate AI sucking, which has been a problem for many titles in the past and would be the games fault. The second being real teammate sucking, which is always the case with randoms and is the fault of people. Past that, this title is looking solid if you don’t mind the bro-mance.
