Avatar is the new hot IP because it was created, shaped, and controlled by James Cameron. He’s brought to life some great IP’s like Aliens and Terminator so this has potential. He has also tortured us with the likes of Titanic.  So what is Avatar going to bring us? Well it’s coming to theaters, IMAX, 3-D, and of course your consoles, even the Wii.

At the Eurogamer Expo I got my hands on Wii version which places you in the role of the blue skinned aliens defending their homeworld or something of the sort. Fact is you are weird and blue and you get to kick some ass. It’s a 3rd person shooter, sans gun. You get a big stick and you go stalking some not so bright bad guys. At the end of the demo you get your hands on a bow but of course you don’t get to use it in the demo. It’s a slight different take on the 3rd person shooter in the focus is not run and gun but more of a sneak and pick off one by one. Not as stealthy as Metal Gear or Splinter Cell yet not an outright brawler. The player and enemies differ in fundamental design alien verse human requiring a mixture of sneaking, stalking, and surprise mixed with a sprinkle of outright assault to get through the level.

Movement is controlled with the nunchuk while attacks are executed with the Wiimote. Controls are fairly fluid once you get used to them, but for me there was a bit of a learning curve. I’m special like that. The graphics were a little more impressive than I expected on the Wii but I have a feeling this will be compensated for by reusing the textures over and over again on each level. Expect a lot of green. This could potentially be a good home for the game on the Wii so it will be interesting to keep an eye on.
