Eurogamer Expo 2009

eurogamer hall

From the 28th to the 31st of October Eurogamer put on their second Eurogamer Expo in Leeds and London.  The first 2 days were in Leeds and the final 2 days were in London as part of the London Games Festival, which I was able to attend. The Eurogamer Expo is a nice little gathering of publishers and developers displaying their wares to the wonderful gamers in attendance. It is definitely a public oriented affair, designed at giving the maximum exposure to the consumer.

The setting is nothing too extravagant just rows of PC’s and console/TV setups for gamers to play in Old Billingsgate, the former fish market. Nice and clean, not overcrowded and a decent line-up of presentations help keep lines to a minimum as I didn’t wait more than 15 minutes to play any game. Spread out over the entire building, only the cafe and career center were overcrowded (and the Assassin’s Creed II demo, very upset about not getting hand’s on there.  Hook a brother up Ubisoft!) Little bits of swag were passed around here and there, but primarily the Expo is just an event to get hands on experience with the newest and upcoming titles. The presentations are nice insights into the developers mind if you are looking for that sort of thing. If you just want to game, there is plenty of that too. Hit the jump to find out what was there…

While I was there I managed to get my grubby little paws on a lot of pretty rad demos such as God of War III, New Super Mario Bros for Wii, Mass Effect 2, Aliens vs. Predator, Heavy Rain, Rouge Warrior, Dark Void, Avatar, Bad Company 2, MAG, and more. Presentations I attended comprised of Heavy Rain, Brink, and Splinter Cell: Conviction, but Value’s Left 4 Dead 2 was also on offer. Many of which you will be hearing more about in the coming days.

If you are in the UK and feel cheated that E3 and TGS are too far away for you to attend I suggest checking out the Eurogamer Expo as most of the demos are a bit more fleshed out than their E3 counterparts, it’s set closer to the release date for many of these games, and it is geared towards the gamers, not industry and press. All in all the Eurogamer Expo was a great experience and I strongly encourage gamers to make an attempt to attend next year, but don’t expect any big announcements, just some quality game time. Watch Loot Ninja space for previews and impressions from the Eurogamer Expo.
