Slice and dice machete action
Valve may have pumped the hype on it’s new upcoming game Left 4 Dead 2. Pre-ordering the game allowed us to play the demo about a week ahead of releasing it to the public. As previously reported, we waited all day on Tuesday for the game to be available. The time kept getting pushed back and people were getting anxious and pissed off. Though outwardly it could be seen as a bad move on Valve’s part, the buzz was going around and people were talking. The delays pretty much fueled the human desire to want it more.
After waiting for over 24 hours Valve finally unlocked the Left 4 Dead 2 demo at around 8:00 pm EST. After restarting Steam and waiting another 20 minutes for the game to decrypt, I was finally able to play. The demo consist of two maps from “The Parish” campaign, set in the New Orleans French Quarter. It was daytime and having been to New Orleans several times, the setting was very realistic. It even had the old corner bar with a jukebox that played Jonathan Coultan – Re-Your brains. It didn’t take long for the zombies to find us and the fun to begin. The regular horde zombies come in a wide variety and when you shoot them, they really blow apart. Lot’s of blood, guts and gore, if you shoot one in the back, you can even see their backbone.
We ran across most of the special new infected, the spitter shows up a lot and has quite a distance on the acid spit though it doesn’t stay on the ground long but it does plenty of damage if you stand in it. She also wears a thong. The jockey is a freak. He’s pretty fast but not as hard to kill as I expected. You can shoot him off of someone if they are attacked and it sure is funny to see your team mate with a zombie riding his head. There is a female boomer and a charger. Holy crap that charger was fast, he focuses on one person and knocks everyone else out of his way. He sent me flying twice before I knew what hit me. We also encountered the walking witch. Her cry is different, sounds more like a woman than a girl. On the second play through I tried to kill her and almost died myself. I did die during the first try at getting through a timed event. The alarm sounds when you go out the door and you have to shut it off at the other end for the zombies to stop coming. All of us died the first time but we made it the second time.
The new weapons are really cool. The auto sniper rifle is awesome and the double pistols rock. They are so much faster then the old ones. I think everyone had the most fun with the machete. Zombie sushi anyone? We did encounter one new weapon that we hadn’t heard about and that is a bottle of puke. Yep, they bottled the boomer bile and made it work against the zombies. Throw one and they attack each other. Throw one at a tank and they all attack him. It was hilarious. I loved this game. I can’t wait for the full version. Be sure to download the demo when it’s available and give it a try.

sounds fun
