Borderlands hasn’t hit store shelves yet, but that didn’t stop Gearbox and 2K from announcing the first round of downloadable content for the RPG shooter. The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is currently in development and will be released later this year for $9.99 (or 800 Microsoft Banana Bucks). From the press release:
Tasked with keeping the workers of Jakobs Cove alive, Dr. Ned (who is not related to Dr. Zed from Fyrestone) does his job a little too well, creating zombies and other abominations that now run rampant in this region. Players will have to work alongside Dr. Ned as they embark on a quest to cure the inhabitants of Jakobs Cove in this full-fledged expansion filled with new enemies, new quests and rare loot drops.
It sounds like Gearbox is going to be releasing Fallout 3 style DLC packs, each adding new areas, missions, and weapons. I have no problem with this model whatsoever. Just hearing about DLC for Borderlands makes me want Tuesday to be here already. Not only is it Borderlands day, it’s my birthday!

I think Borderlands will be great for people like me who couldn’t embrace Fallout 3 because I spent 3 or 4 hundred hours on the first two and would have been MORE than happy with barely updated isometric graphics if the rest of the game was up to par with the first two (it wasn’t…). I think I’ll be able to enjoy it for what it is and have fun shooting people. Oh yeah.
counting the days till i can get this…….. dlc tooo awesome….. @power i loved fallout3 just walking around and i played the original too..
if they had it ready before release, why not just include it in the game?
cuz they want another $10 out of you, thats why.
I’m going to completely disagree here. The game went Gold a few weeks ago, meaning it was ready for release. This segment of DLC was, most likely, cut from development due to time constraints or bugs that needed to be ironed out. You’re already getting an 80+ hour game. Everyone knows going in that DLC will be coming, so if you can’t get something in before launch, you start work on it once the game goes Gold. The press release clearly stated it is currently in development, meaning they’re still working on this DLC pack. It’s not finished and ready to roll at the same time as the game.
In 99% of the cases with DLC, it has nothing to do with the developer/publisher wanting to scam more money out of you. It has to do with development time and resources.
umm 80+ hrs umm are you smoking crack…. no way i probably put maybe 30+ hrs and thats going through BOTH playthroughs 1 & 2 so this game was good but the end was gay the length of the game was gay i would give this game a 8.0 instead of the 8.8 ign.com gave it the length of the game was just such a let down knowing that they have dlc coming so soon SHOULD OF PUT IT IN!
