Q: What is Simlish? A: That’s the secret language that Sims speak to each other in all the Sims games.

Regular “Sim” Simlish is different than “MySims” Simlish. In case you have wondered how they made these voices or if you even considered if they were computer generated, wonder no more.

During the Blogger’s Day event we got a special tour of the Sim recording studio and witnessed a voice actor adding simlish to characters. The voice overs were spontaneous and made up; no two takes were alike. The voice actor we watched was very good at his craft, he got it right every time.

The studio is small with two tables of computer sound equipment. The actor is in a closed room with a glass window like any recording star and he can see the Sim character do an animation on the computer screen.

The voice director tells him what kind of expression and reaction they want and he ad-libs the whole thing. The voices are recorded and within a day or two are added into the game. It’s really that fast. Technology is great!
