I saved the best for last. Since I am a huge Sim fan, getting to see the preview of the Sims3 expansion World Adventures was the best! We were not allowed to take pictures so I can only describe what I saw.

Once the game was loaded we were in the Egypt map. It was a vast desert with a small town center and landmarks like pyramids and the sphinx. In the town centers, Sims can learn from the locals about food, recipes and skills to take back home like grape stomping or martial arts. Our Sim, McDanger made his way to one of the Pyramids and entered. This loaded a new screen inside the landmark. Once inside he was able to interact with almost everything. Push/pull statues, explore, look inside, figure out puzzles. In one sarcophagus he found a gold ingot, in another spot he triggered a switch that opens stairs so he could go down deeper to another level.

There is a fog of exploration and you can’t see the entire map until it’s explored. Some parts of the map have traps so you have to figure out how to get through them. Ours was a fire trap. Once he caught on fire he jumped in a pool of water and put himself out. Once wet, he could walk through the fire to the other side. Along the way he collected reward objects and at some points could not progress further because he needed a tool found in China, a good incentive to go visit the other parts of the world. Our demo ended with our Sim opening a tomb and releasing a mummy. The mummy’s are the new special creature and Sims can be turned into one or be created as one. The mummy placed a curse on McDanger and he had 14 days to remove the curse or die some sort of horrible death. How exciting is that?

The Adventure game has a log that keeps track of your adventures, relics and collections. Once you play long enough you earn a visa and you can own property in one of the three maps. Included in the game is Egypt, China and France. I am so excited about this expansion, more than any other Sim expansion of the past. It’s like a game within a game. I can’t wait to take my Sim on some fantastic fun adventures. Release date is Nov. 17th, 2009.
