For anyone getting impatient over the chance to actually see Team Zipper’s so called Massive Action Game in action, you’ll just have to keep waiting a bit more. Sony announced on their official blog that MAG will release on January 26th, and that there will also be news on a public beta soon.
I’m personally rather excited for MAG. The game features 256 player mayhem, persistent character stats, and a number of other things that make me think it will be like a larger scale Battlefield 2142, which is awesome since I’ve played Battlefield to death. I’m curious to see how well it will end up running; apparently the game servers sport some kind of new architecture that should help alleviate the common lag and response issues that would undoubtedly plague a game of this scale. For a gamer like myself who usually prefers shooters on the PC, I’m willing to give MAG a shot due to what Zipper is promising, although I’ll probably end up getting destroyed by anyone who plays shooters on a console regularly.

I’m on the fence about MAG. It has promise, but it didn’t blow me away when I played at E3. It’ll be a good shooter, but I don’t really see it as something that people will keep coming back to over and over. I could be completely wrong though.
With the recent trend of launching online multiplayer games on the PSN, expect the actual date to be 2-3 weeks after January 26th once the game gets patched.
I don’t know if I really want to be playing in a 256 player warzone, but I do want to get my hands on MAG. If the qualifications for the beta are reasonable, than I’ll make an effort to get in and see if it’s my cup of juice.
I play the beta alot … it’s freaking sick
