We’ve all sat there playing the classic Nintendo system and wanted to desperately mash up, modify, and create our own great 8-bit tunes coming out of the TV speakers. Well, with the help of NESynth (an iPod touch/iPhone app) you will be able to do just that, create your own classic Nintendo-like music themes.
At first glance of the application, you see that the interface is just a very simple keyboard, with a few virtual knobs above that to change octave, waveform, and sound effect. When you eventually dive deeper into the app, you’ll see just how versatile this little bad boy is. Add in another keyboard on top of that, and you create awesome 8-bit power chords that make Eddie Van Halen run off into the sunset and give his game away for free.
Need help creating tunes though, and not very good at playing the keyboard? No worries, NESynth has got you covered too. You will be able to turn that keyboard into something a little more familiar to you, a classic NES controller (beat box). By pressing the A, B, start and select buttons, as well as the D-pad, you will hear the most glorious of assorted 8-bit sound effects.

What I have already mentioned above is worth the $1.99 price tag on the Apple iTunes Store, but it doesn’t stop there. Oh no, not at all. You can also change the pitch of your music simply by “sweeping” the Iphone around in your hand. Rock it back and forth and send your music into the trippy stratosphere.
The only downside I see of the app so far is that you are unable to save your 8-bit creations, but you are able to record them into a PC music software setup and listen to them later if you want to.
The NESynth app is only available for iPhone OS 3.0 and is available now from the Apple iTunes Store for $1.99. Here is a small taste of what the NESynth app can do!

Interesting. One question though, you mentioned that we can “record them into a PC music software setup” later for playback. How exactly do you do that?
