Amidst the myriad of changes in Madden NFL 10 to enhance realism, EA Sports added the ability to change the game speed. The Default, Slow, brings things closer to the actual speed on the field. However, it’s a bit too slow for a video game. Luckily, you can change this setting to customize Madden to your liking.
The first thing I recommend doing when you pick up Madden next week is going into the Settings menu and changing the Game Speed to Normal. This brings it back closer to last year’s game. It still feels slightly slower than that, giving you a touch of added realism, while keeping a balance with being fun. You can set the Game Speed to Very Slow, Slow, Normal, Fast, and Very Fast.
I haven’t had a chance to play around with all the speeds yet, but based on the ones I’ve tried (Slow, Normal, Fast), the “Very” settings have to be overly dramatic changes to the speed that you’ll only want to try after a few beers with your friends.
Make sure to check back Monday at 3pm ET when the embargo lifts on Madden reviews. You’ll be able to read our thoughts on this year’s iteration and see if it’s worth your cold hard cash.

I have a preview copy of Madden 10 that I’ve been playing. Without question, the default speed is a vast improvement over the game speed from last year’s game. There’s a reason that this year’s game is getting much better PR than last year’s game. It’s a whole lot better than last year’s game and the default speed is a major reason for that.
I completely agree with that. I think that one reason I may have liked the NFL 2K series better than Madden could have been because of the play speed.
Maybe I’ll download the demo…
what is the speed 4 ranked games online?
There are 5 options – Very Slow, Slow, Normal, Fast, and Very Fast.
Very Slow = 13% less than last year (I actually like playing on this mode sometimes…it’s SO much easier when you have time to pick a hole or find a WR)
Slow = 9% less than last year (default offline setting out of the box)
Normal = 5% less than last year (default online setting)
Fast = Same as last year (and the same as NCAA 10)
Very Fast = 5% faster than NCAA 10 / Madden 09

Awesome info! Great to know! I feel that Normal is the best speed option of all of them. A bit slower than before, but not too slow that it makes the game boring.

Thanks to EA sports for adding the ability to change the game speed. If the speed of the video game is slow, it will get bored to the player who is playing the games. Yeah the advice for changing the game speed to normal when picking up Madden is good. From my view I like the speed of the games to be normal not that fast and slow. I think I have to check the preview copy of Madden NFL 10.
