Review: Killzone 2 Napalm & Cordite Map Pack

Killzone 2 Napalm & Cordite Map Pack

Killzone 2 has been a hit or miss title with PS3 owners.  Although breathtaking to look at it, many people were not fans of its unique online multiplayer.  I however, fell in love with the game upon its release and have since downloaded all of the DLC for it, sucking money out of my wallet, but all worth every penny.  We recently saw the release of the game’s third (and possibly final) map pack which adds 2 new maps and 2 new weapons to the game’s multiplayer mayhem.  At $5.99, it seems like you may not be getting enough content for your buck, however these new maps are some of the best the game has seen since its release.

The first map, entitled Suljeva Cliffside, takes place on, well, a cliff side.  Set in one of the dirtier and dustier levels, the map is laid out in a fairly straightforward fashion, with most of the action occurring in the middle of the map.  The level is on the smaller side, making for some really insane action with 32 people all vying for control of the center location.  This map also introduces the flamethrower gun into multiplayer.  The weapon itself is quite powerful and a blast to use, however since there is only one of these guns on the map, obtaining it becomes quite the challenge.  Once in your hands though, it is great to see players running around on fire, eventually falling to their death.

The second map featured, Arctower Landing, has more of an industrial feel.  It also is much more spread out, with a bigger focus on vertical playing fields.  You always have to be on the lookout up and down for attacking players.  It also does not have such a central point like the previous map, allowing for more individual battles taking place across the entirety of the map.  Arctower Landing’s weapon of choice is the all new bolt gun.  Like the flamethrower, only one is featured on the map, but again, once picking this beast up, you better fire away to witness the true power of the gun.  Sending an opponent flying backward with a metal spike, pinning them against a wall, is a sight to behold.

For only $5.99, I would highly suggest this latest and greatest map pack for Killzone 2.  Some of the previous maps (like the speeding train) were not my cup of tea.  Although I like the fact that they tried something unique, it didn’t translate into an enjoyable map.  However, with Napalm & Cordite, the developers went back to more basic, straightforward map making and created 2 of the best maps to hit Killzone 2.   If you own Killzone 2, do yourself a big favor, download the map pack, and start burning Helghast all over the place.

  1. Nice review. I really liked the previous 2 map packs, but have since somewhat moved on from Killzone 2. Maybe I’ll pick this up and get back into playing it online.
