MUST. GET. POWER CONVERTERS!
LucasArts has been on a tear lately revamping and revitalizing its older game properties. With the recent release of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition to The Dig, the minions under George Lucas are hard at work bringing back older franchises. With that being said, something just might be on the horizon for the famous dogfighting adventure series set in the Star Wars universe.
G4’s Patrick Klepek recently sat down with LucasArts president Darrel Rodriguez and asked about the future of the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and the X-wing vs. TIE Fighter series.
“We don’t have any announcements now, but stay tuned,” Rodriguez said. “We will soon…..”
I’m hoping for a full-on gaming title for this generation, but at this point, I really don’t care! I just want to strap myself in to the Incom Corp. T-65 X-wing starfighter and take on a few pesky womprats in training mode. Is that too much to ask without having to break out my 100MHz Packard Bell and suction cup equipped joystick to watch porn take on Beggar’s Canyon? Yes, I know! With that last comment you all probably know now that I am a huge Star Wars nerd. HUGE!
Here’s hoping that we will hear an announcement soon about this upcoming title. Then and only then I will be able to safely take my Ewok sleepy shorts out of their cubby and wear them with pride!
OMG, this gave me chills. I literally played through all of the x-wing vs. tie fighter games probably 10 or 15 times. I grew up on these games, and would kill you ALL for another offering in the series.
In the words of Louis Black- Holy effin’ Moses! Not only would it be righteous to finally see a great space sim after all these years, I might chew off one of my legs if it happened to be an X-Wing/Tie-Fighter game. Do you know how many times I crashed trying to see if I could fly my X/A/Y-Wing into the bay of the Star Destroyer?!

The space sim genre has been neglected a bit in recent years. Any good ones you can recommend?
Sadly, I broke my OWN suction cup equipped joystick back in the day moving it back and forth too many times trying to master Beggar’s Canyon.
I don’t remember if Rebel Assault had a save feature? I often times couldn’t beat Beggar’s Canyon because of the joystick calibration! Damn you! Never beat that game…… But I still love to play Rogue Squadron!
I remember replacing many a pot in my Saitek flight stick after those games, especially X-wing Vs. Tie fighter with the online multiplayer. Can’t wait to sit in a Tie Advanced fighter again!
Some version of a Star Wars flight sim better come to the iTouch devices.
