It is very rare that DLC games come along that are as good as BF 1943. Arguably the best downloadable game of this generation, BF 1943 stormed on the scene and everyone had to get their hands on it. The developers knew this was the case and left the Air Superiority mode hidden until 43 million kills were reached on your respective console. This created a ton of buzz and people flocked to help unlock it. The Coral Sea Challenge was a rousing success. Awesome. So, now what?
I really believe that BF 1943 needs something new and I am not talking about just another map. The game needs another game mode. A straight team Deathmatch, an Attack and Defend, anything. The game is so much fun but it is really starting to get stale. The three maps are varied enough where you do not mind the rotation, but the simple Capture the Flag/Control the Spawn Point mode is getting boring.
Many players could care less about capturing the flags. Winning or losing does nothing for you in-game. Sure it will raise your personal stats, but outside of some self gratification, who cares? Most people try to get the planes, get the tanks, camp the air raid bunker, or just go kamikaze. I have no problem with that. Yet, if the game breaks down into a simple concept, kill the other guy, let’s have a mode where the sole purpose is to just kill the other guy.
Now, I know what you are going to say. The game is $20, absolutely kick ass, and looks and plays great. What the shit are you complaining about? My rebuttal is simple. The game is everything aforementioned, but once you make a great product, and people fall in love with it, you have to expect that after awhile they are going to want something new. Would I pay $10 for 2 new maps, a new game mode, and a new heavy weapons class soldier? An emphatic, yes. The developers at Dice have been really good at measuring the pulse of their audience, I hope they continue to do the same.
I think the current maps are fine. I don’t play Air Superiority since I suck at flying, but I still enjoy playing the other 3 maps. I think a new game mode would go a long way to adding to the game. Adding a map might not be the best use of the developer’s time since Bad Company 2 is coming out in the not too distant future.

It is a tough call on what would make the game even better than it currently is, and at what cost? For $20 bucks, we got a game that provides as much fun as any other full retail game that has released this summer.
The simplest move, which you mentioned, would be to add a team deathmatch mode to vary it up as a free update. And maybe a new weapon and vehicle.
Spot on. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the game. But Conquest does get a bi tiresome after a while. 2 maps, a new mode, and a Heavy class for $10(€6 for me) couldn’t sound more right
I think you’re missing the point of what Battlefield 1942 was and what 1943 is going to be.
Every other game offers a straight Deathmatch scenario, that’s never been what this game has been about.
Right, but you have to take into consideration what PC gamers (BF1942) expect vs console gamers (BF1943). Console gamers aren’t used to getting only 1 gameplay mode.
Maybe add the Gold Rush mode that was in Bad Company?
why not do a simple capture the flag? no real redesign of the maps themselves, just some tweaks and small additions to the game engine.

Yeah couldn’t agree more. Surely the dev’s would realise they would have to capitalize on the hype surrounding it before it dies off.
I would happily cough-up an extra $10 for an additional class (or tweaks of current ones, medic anyone?) and/or maps, vehicles etc.
