Review: The Bigs 2 (Wii)

The Bigs 2 Wii Screen

When motion controls first hit the scene a few years back, playing a baseball game where you can actually swing was what I wanted most. Many gamers preferred the light saber fantasy, but I am more of an athlete than a mathlete. Anyway, the baseball game to play this season not on Sony hardware is The Bigs 2. This is like baseball on steroids, no pun intended. The game is a hybrid of a baseball sim and NFL Blitz. The Wii version is different from the other console versions making it a clean single as opposed to a walk-off home run.

The Bigs 2 has several modes which you can play. There is a regular season mode where you can take your favorite team to glory as well as the standard create-a-player. The lights out favorite mode of mine was Home Run Pinball. This was brought back with great fanfare and is a refreshing take on a standard game type. There are several venues to play, all very different, and more to unlock. Playing with a buddy side by side while talking trash made me keep coming back for more. The single player modes are standard fare and can get a little stale after awhile.

The Bigs 2 Wii Screen

You can expect some graphical limitations when a game is multi-platform, especially since the Wii is not on the same field of play when it comes to visuals as the other next-gens. The Bigs 2 does not look like this gen at all. The graphics are rather poor for the Wii. After seeing games like The Conduit and Madworld, we know what the Wii can produce and this is nowhere near that. The player models are bad and the stadiums no better. It is evident the second you turn the game on, the graphics are going to be an issue.

The Bigs 2 is a fun, new take on baseball sims. It is a very limited genre, like all sports games because of the exclusivity rights. The Bigs 2 is an MLB licensed game and has all the players and stadiums you would expect from a next gen baseball game. The big problem here is that you will be hard-pressed to recognize any of them. There is enough here to make you want to take a swing with the Bigs 2 for awhile, but the visual quality will take it’s toll. This would be a must have if the game was more polished but is a solid rental for any baseball fan.

  1. Good review. The game is okay, but nothing I could see myself wanting to keep playing for an extended period of time.

  2. I’m only here because two is better than one.
