Review: Wii Sports Resort

Wii Sports may be one of the best selling pack-in games of all time, but it’s also been labeled a glorified tech demo by some. The games were simplistic and easily glitched (I can bowl a 290-300 every time laying down on my couch). Wii Sports Resort takes the fun gameplay elements from the original, adds Wii Motion Plus and a ton of new sports, and makes for a damn fun experience.

The best part of Wii Sports Resort is getting yourself a Wii Motion Plus, giving you true 1:1 motion response. Many of the sports in Wii Sports Resort would not be possible without Motion Plus, which is why it’s required and included with the game. New and notable sports include Swordplay, Wakeboarding, Frisbee, Archery, Basketball, Table Tennis, Power Cruising, Canoeing, Cycling, and Air Sports. Making a return from the original are Golf and Bowling. Each game provides its own deal of fun and all work best in a multiplayer environment. My personal favorites are Swordplay, Basketball, and Power Cruising (it feels like Wave Race with motion controls). Many of the sports have multiple modes which can be unlocked by playing them each once or twice.

There isn’t much wrong with Wii Sports Resort. I’ve had the game lock up on me once during the Frisbee tutorial, but otherwise things ran smooth. The one downside is that many multiplayer games need multiple Wii Remotes, meaning you’ll have to go out and pick up more Wii Motion Plus add-ons if you want to game with your friends.

Although I can no longer bowl a 300, I’m having more fun than ever with Wii Sports Resort. I’ve gone back and played almost daily since I finished playing it for this review because it’s so much fun. It’s a given this is going to sell millions and goes without saying that every Wii owner needs to own a copy of Wii Sports Resort. Do yourself a favor and run out to your local game shop to pick this one up as soon as possible.

    WOW, 5 Ninja Stars!

I will definitely be checking this one out. Especially since my original Wii Sports disc bit the dust. *danged chirrens*

    1. It’s freaking fun. I know it’s not “mature” gaming content, but I could care less. If it’s a damn good time, I’m playing it. That’s exactly where Wii Sports Resort fits in.

Just remember, WEAR THE WRIST STRAP!!!!! :)
